Near East University engineers have produced "Electronic Wristbands" to keep people, who have a positive test result in the new type of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and who need to be in quarantine, under control.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, quarantine has become one of life's routine practices. Isolating people, who have just entered the country and those who need to be quarantined, are vitally important to prevent the spread of the pandemic. However, the home quarantine method makes it difficult to detect people who do not comply with quarantine. On the other hand, making the quarantine in single-center results with a serious cost for the state.

According to the information provided by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, the "Electronic Wristband" tracking system produced by Near East University engineers eliminates both of these problems. Thanks to the Electronic Wristband developed with electronic monitoring software, the system will give a warning if people, who must be in quarantine, leave their homes. At the same time, the "Electronic Wristband" developed can be used in non-pandemic situations deemed appropriate by the state within the legal regulations.

Patients will be followed 24/7...
The "Electronic Wristband" developed at the Near East University was produced using low energy bluetooth connected ibeacon technology. In this way, people under quarantine can be monitored instantly at their homes 24/7 at a low cost. If the user moves away from the designated place, the system will warn.

Software developed for Android and Ios Phones...
Keeping the security of personal data at the forefront, applications suitable for Android and Ios phones were also developed for the Electronic Wristband, whose software was produced using the Near East University Supercomputer. If the user deletes the application from his phone or if the connection is lost between the wristband and the phone, the system notifies the necessary units and parties.

Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel: "The Electronic Wristband, of which the software completely owned by our engineers, is ready to be used..."
Near East University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said that "Electronic Wristband" was developed by Near East University engineers in order to prevent people under coronavirus quarantine from going out by violating the rules.

Reminding that the quarantine application at home will become safe and controllable with the "Electronic Wristband" they developed, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel also added that this would save the state from a huge financial burden created by a possible single-center quarantine obligation. Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said that the Electronic Wristband they developed can be used in non-pandemic situations that the state deems appropriate in accordance with the legal legislation.

Stating that the design, software and production of the "Electronic Wristband" will be carried out in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “With technology-oriented projects, we are taking one more step towards our goals of innovation, localization and nationalization. As Near East University, we will continue to produce technology by working on software, informatics, communication, energy production and distribution systems, wearable technologies and smart systems."
