
Following the “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality and Empowerment” event to be held at Near East University on Thursday, March 6, as part of March 8 International Working Women’s Day, the “March 8 International Women’s Day Exhibition” will be opened by President Ersin Tatar.
March 8 International Working Women’s Day will be celebrated with rich scientific and cultural and artistic events to be held at Near East University. The events, which aim to raise awareness on gender equality, will offer a rich program ranging from panels, documentary screenings and art exhibitions.
The first event to be organized by the Near East University Gender Application and Research Center (TOCAM) with the theme of “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality and Empowerment” will start at 10:00 on Thursday, March 6 at the Irfan Günsel Congress Center. The opening of the “March 8 International Women’s Day Exhibition” to be held after the full-day event will be held by President Ersin Tatar.
A multi-faceted look at women’s rights!
The scientific event to be held by the Near East University Gender Application and Research Center (TOCAM) at the Irfan Günsel Congress Center on Thursday, March 6 at 10:00 will present a multi-faceted look at women’s rights in three sessions. In the first session titled “Rights, Equality and Empowerment”, Prof. Dr. Fatma Güven Lisaniler will address the economic aspect of the issue, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eylem Ümit Atılgan will focus on the legal aspect, Prof. Dr. Nur Köprülü will speak on the political aspect and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Süheyla Üçışık Erbilen will focus on the educational aspect.
In the second part of the event, the issue of women in the media will be discussed by journalist and author Nezire Gürkan. Then, the documentary titled “Perihan Aziz” prepared by KÖDER will be screened in memory of well-known journalist Perihan Aziz who passed away in January. In the last part of the event, the panel “The Role and Importance of Women in Gastronomy” will be held in partnership with the Tourism Research Center. The panel, chaired by Near East University Faculty of Tourism Dean Prof. Dr. Nesrin Bahçelerli, will feature researcher and writer Kıymet Alibey, entrepreneur Çiğdem Burhan and chef Zehra Özcan as speakers.
Equality through the power of art…
Immediately following the event, which will end at 16:30, the opening of the “March 8 International Women’s Day Exhibition” will be held with the participation of President Ersin Tatar. The exhibition, which will bring together the works of academic artists from the Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design and the artists of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, will bring together 50 artworks consisting of paintings, sculptures, ceramics and printmaking with art lovers. The exhibition, which is the 470th exhibition of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, will be open to visitors free of charge until February 25.
