“Women and Interior Architecture” and “Women and Architecture” talks were held at the Near East University Faculty of Architecture with intense participation

Within the scope of the activities organized by Near East University for March 8 International Women’s Day, the “Women and Interior Architecture” and “Women and Architecture” talks organized by the Near East University Faculty of Architecture attracted great attention.

The place and role of women in architecture and interior architecture professions were discussed in the events held with the participation of Master Architect İlkay Feridun and Interior Architect Şölen Üstüner. Near East University Faculty of Architecture Dean Prof. Dr. Zihni Turkan presented a “Appreciation Plaque” to the guests who attended the event. Participating students were also given “Participation Certificates”.

Kite Festival and Student Works Exhibition attracted great attention

Various events such as the “Kite Festival” and “Student Works Exhibition” were also held in the events, which attracted great interest from the faculty and students of the Faculty of Architecture. At the Kite Festival, students designed kites representing women’s rights and the struggle for equality and containing various slogans on the subject, and flew these kites into the sky.


Prof. Dr. Zihni Turkan: “The role of women in the field of architecture and interior architecture makes a significant contribution to the development of disciplines and increasing social diversity.”

Stating that architecture and interior architecture are disciplines that have a great impact on the social fabric, shaping of living spaces and human experience, Near East University Faculty of Architecture Dean Prof. Dr. Zihni Turkan said, “Women’s sensitivity, empathy skills and sensitivity to details ensure that spaces are user-friendly and designs that prioritize human experience emerge.” Prof. Dr. Turkan said, “Thus, women make a significant contribution to the development of disciplines in the field of architecture and interior architecture and to the increase of social diversity.”

Prof. Dr. Turkan also met with the students of Near East University Faculty of Architecture and expressed his gratitude to Master Architect İlkay Feridun and Interior Architect Şölen Üstüner, who inspired them.
