Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ was named in a Technology and Design Book among the “Turkish Cypriots Reaching the Peak of Success”

Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ was named among the “Turkish Cypriots Reaching the Peak of Success” in a book titled as Technology and Design 8. It was pointed out that this book has been published within the framework of the Basic Education Programme Development Project of the Ministry of National Education and Culture and that it has been authorised as a book to be utilized as teachers` guide book by the Ministry of National Education Department of Secondary Education.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Vice Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ has taken his place among others as “Turkish Cypriots Reaching the Peak of Success” since he is regarded as a figure whose works on obesity drew special attention and has been awarded many awards due to his inventions. In addition, he is well recognised as the first Turkish Cypriot to acknowledge the world that obesity that may develop due to certain microbes could be prevented with a vaccine. It was further stressed that the book which will be used as Teachers’ guide, tilted as Technology and Design 8, which will be taught at the secondary education, has a section on the Turkish Cypriots who have made great achievements. Furthermore, it was pointed out that 6 other Turkish Cypriots were included in the above-mentioned book due to achievements in the field of engineering, software development, cancer, psychology, autism and epilepsy.

In the book, Vice Rector of Near East University, Prof Dr Tamer Şanlıdağ is referred to as the Turkish Cypriot in the World of Medicine who has carried out research on microbes named Adenovirus 5 and Adenovirus 36; which were proven to cause obesity in children. Thus, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ is the first person to propose to the world the relationship between obesity in children and Adenovirus 5. In fact, via research conducted on lab rats, he also proved that Adenovirus 36 caused storage of fat and that this could be prevented with a vaccine.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ stated that he was rather proud to have made contributions to the world of science, especially via his studies on microbes which cause obesity. He added how happy he was to be recorded among the Turkish Cypriots who made great achievements in the book titled as Technology and Design 8. Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ further added that they were continuing their meticulous team work on conducting research; as they wanted to set an example to future generations. He also stated his strong belief that this century will continue with further developments in both diagnosis and treatments in medicine. In this regard, he stated that there was no doubt the future generations would pick up and take these developments even further. He ended his words by expressing that by being named among the Turkish Cypriots with great achievements in the teachers’ guide book, he expected to trigger future achievements of others.

The Results of the TUBİTAK Project will be revealed at the 38th Annual Congress on Microbiology…
Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ stated that the results of his TUBİTAK project, where he conducted research on the capacity of the microbe, named as Adenovirus 36, to infect mesenchymal stem cells of human adipose tissue and the changes made will be revealed at the congress on microbiology that will be held in Antalya during 4-8 November, 2018.
