Two of the physiotherapists who will take part in the “StandUp Right” project, which will be implemented by the Cyprus Turkish Physiotherapists Association with the support of the European Union, were selected from the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Near East University.

Near East University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Instructors Assist. Prof. Dr. Melis Bağkur and Specialist Hüseyin Bilal Özkader will take part as the trainers in the StandUp Right project to be carried out by the Cyprus Turkish Physiotherapists Association with the support of the European Union.
Cyprus Turkish Physiotherapists Association aims to raise awareness about spine health with the “StandUp Right” project that will be implemented with the support of the European Union and will last for two years. Within the scope of the project, body awareness-based spine health training will especially be given to developing children, primary school students and teachers. The trainers who will take part in the project named ‘StandUp Right/It is Good to Stand Up’ to be carried out by the Cyprus Turkish Physiotherapists Association were selected from among all physiotherapist applications throughout the TRNC.

Two of the six physiotherapists selected for the project were from the Faculty of Health Sciences of Near East University. As a result of the interviews and assessments, Near East University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Teaching Staff Assist. Prof. Dr. Melis Bağkur and Specialist Hüseyin Bilal Özkader were selected to be the trainer staff of the “StandUp Right/It is Good to Stand Upright” project.


The project will be carried out in four phases
The two-year ‘StandUp Right/It’s Good to Stand Up’ project will be implemented in four phases. In the first leg of the project, physiotherapists assigned as trainers will receive integrative training by Basic Body Awareness Therapy Specialists with BBAT Module A and Module B, which are International Body Awareness-Based Spine Health trainings. After completing the training, physiotherapists will give training to students and teachers in primary schools and special education centers. In the third stage of the project, the book “Spine Health Based on Body Awareness in Children” will be created, while public service videos will be prepared in the last stage of the project.

Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Adile Öniz Özgören said, “It is a great honor for us that our esteemed lecturers from our competent academic staff, Assist. Prof. Dr. Melis Bağkur and Specialist Hüseyin Bilal Özkader took part as instructors in the ‘StandUp Right/It’s Good to Stand Up’ project.

Stating that 30 physical education and 30 classroom teachers will receive training as well as students within the scope of the project, Prof. Dr. Adile Öniz Özgören stated that the project is of great importance in order to raise awareness of primary school children in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the teachers responsible for their future.
