The last stop of the official contacts organized by Turkey – Azerbaijan, Turkey – TRNC and Azerbaijan – TRNC Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups to TRNC to give a ‘message of unity’ was Near East University.

Members of the bilateral friendship groups established between the parliaments of the three countries also visited the Near East University campus as part of their contacts. During the visit, which started at the Cyprus Car Museum on the Near East University campus, the members of parliament were welcomed by Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Near East University Museums Department Director Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul. The parliamentary delegation, accompanied by Nicosia Deputy Ahmet Savaşan, included Turkey – TRNC Friendship Group President Orhan Erdem, Turkey – Azerbaijan Friendship Group President Şamil Ayrım and Turkey – Azerbaijan Friendship Group members Cihan Paçacı, Can Türk Alagöz and Burhan Bayraktutan.

The delegations first visited the Cyprus Car Museum, then GÜNSEL Production Facilities, Dr. Suat Günsel Mosque, Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, Near East University Hospital and the Grand Library.

A message of unity was given…

Stating that the purpose of the visit to TRNC is to give a message to the whole world, and that this message carries the fact that TRNC is an independent state, Orhan Erdem, President of the Turkey – TRNC Friendship Group, stated that these contacts will continue. Emphasizing that they are very proud that Near East University is among the 139th best young universities in the world, President of the Turkey – Azerbaijan Friendship Group Şamil Ayrım said, “We proudly follow the success of Near East University in the international arena and believe that this success will continue.”

Thanking the delegation for their visit, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ emphasized the importance of Turkey-Azerbaijan, Turkey-TRNC and Azerbaijan-TRNC Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups coming together in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said that the projects implemented by the Near East University and the international achievements are extremely important for TRNC to take the place it deserves in the international arena.
