Near East University and Japan-based Asian Forum on Chronobiology signed a cooperation protocol. Within the scope of the protocol, which came into force with the signatures of Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Prof. Dr. Ken-ichi Honma, the parties will conduct scientific research on sleep patterns, biological rhythms, biological clock, cyclic gene expression, hormonal regulations and all other biological effects of time, including the brain and consciousness.

Near East University, which cooperates with more than 150 universities and institutions in many countries of the world, continues to expand its international cooperation network. Near East University signed a cooperation protocol with the Japan-based Asian Forum on Chronobiology to organize joint scientific projects and events in the fields of brain and consciousness.

The Cooperation protocol was signed by Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Prof. Dr. Ken-ichi Honma from Hokkaido University, who is also the President of the “Asian Forum on Chronobiology” and came to the TRNC to participate in the “Brain and Time: Mechanisms and Functions from Microdian to Circadian” symposium hosted by Near East University.

In 2019, Near East University signed a cooperation protocol with the Germany-based International Sleep Sciences and Technology Association to carry out research and technology development studies. This protocol also included the Innovative Medical and Health Technology Center and China Medical University.

International scientific research will be carried out, new technologies will be investigated…

Chronobiology examines sleep patterns, biological rhythms, biological clock, cyclic gene expression, hormonal regulations and all other biological effects of time. With the cooperation protocol signed between Near East University and Asian Forum on Chronobiology, the two institutions will act jointly for scientific research in these areas, including brain and consciousness.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “I believe that the cooperation protocol we signed will provide important scientific production with the contributions of researchers from both institutions.”

Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ emphasized the importance of research carried out in collaboration with researchers from different cultures and regions and said, “The important thing in scientific studies carried out for a better world and to serve humanity is cooperation, not competition.” Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said that they aim to increase scientific productivity and efficiency by collaborating with universities and institutes from many regions and countries of the world. Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “This productivity that we have developed with the culture of collaboration makes a significant contribution to our university being listed among the best universities in the world by many international higher education rating organizations.”

Emphasizing that they are happy to host Prof. Ken-ichi Honma, who is one of the world’s most important scientists in the field of medical sleep research and chronobiology, and his team at TRNC and Near East University, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “I believe that the cooperation protocol we signed will provide important scientific production with the contributions of researchers from both institutions.”

Prof. Dr. Ken-ichi Honma: “We would like to organize the next Asian Sleep Medicine Congress, hosted by Near East University, within the scope of the protocol we signed.”

Reminding that he came to the TRNC to participate in the symposium organized by the Near East University Brain and Consciousness Research Center, Asian Forum on Chronobiology President and Hokkaido University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Ken-ichi Honma said, “We have been working closely with Turkish scientists for many years. We have been together with Prof. Dr. Murat Özgören from Near East University in many scientific events so far. I am very happy to be at Near East University today.”

Emphasizing that Near East University is a very important scientific partner with its vast scientific opportunities, Prof. Dr. Ken-ichi Honma said, “At the symposium we attended today, Near East University students impressed me greatly with their questions and attention. We would like to organize the next Asian Sleep Medicine Congress, hosted by Near East University, within the scope of the protocol we signed.”
