TRNC Minister of Transport Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu has undergone quadruple bypass surgery

Following the coronary artery bypass surgery, NEU Hospital held a press conference and reported that the Transport Minister Mr.Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu was in good health.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, NEU Hospital Chief Physician Dr. Sevim Erkmen, Prof. Dr. İlhan Sanisoğlu, Head of NEU Hospital Cardiovascular Surgery Department, Prof. Dr. Hamza Duygu, Head of NEU Hospital Cardiology Department and Cardiovascular Surgeon Dr. Özlem Balcıoğlu attended the press meeting that held at Near East University Hospital Hall 101.


Abdominal pain might be a sign for heart attack
NEU Hospital Chief Physician Dr. Sevim Erkmen stated that the Transport Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu was admitted to NEU Hospital at about 18:30 on Friday evening. “Mr. Ertuğruloğlu stated that he was suffering from abdominal pain for almost a week. As severe and constant abdominal pain might be a sign of a possible heart attack, the case required urgent medical attention. Following the diagnostic tests and procedures, angiography was applied to visualize the patient’s coronary arteries. Our cardiovascular team reviewed the coronary angiogram, identified the number of obstructions and the percent of obstruction of each. As a result, they concluded on an urgent coronary artery bypass surgery. Today, the bypass surgery has been carried out successfully by Prof. Dr. İlhan Sanisoğlu, the Head of Cardiovascular Surgery Department, and his team” said she.


Addressing to press members, Prof. Dr. İlhan Sanisoğlu, Head of Cardiovascular Surgery Department, stated that they detected 90% obstruction in patient’s left main coronary artery, which required two bypasses, and 90% obstruction in two right coronary arteries.

Ertuğruloğlu has undergone quadruple bypass surgery

Professor Sanisoğlu emphasized that they decided for an urgent bypass surgery because the patient’s cardiac contraction was also highly deteriorated.

Professor Sanisoğlu stated that the surgery took four and half hours and four obstructed coronary arteries were bypassed.

He underlined that the Transport Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu was in good health and he was transferred to the intensive care unit for close monitoring after surgery.

Professor Sanisoğlu highlighted that the recovery process in the intensive care unit includes medication to support heart and the patient would be transferred to the nursing unit within a week.
