Through cooperation with Near East University, the 64th Mid-Year Meeting of International Association of Dental Students has been held

The 64th Mid-Year Meeting of International Association of Dental Students (64 IADS MYM) has been held through cooperation with Near East University, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The IADS is known as an association which brings more than 200 thousand dentistry students together; aiming to share international projects and while making scientific developments in the field of dentistry via lectures and workshops.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of near East University, dental students from many different countries around the world were brought together at Merit Park Hotel and the 64th Mid-Year Meeting of international Association of Dental Students was realised with a total of 156 participants from 23 different countries. Furthermore, upon completion of the congress, the membership of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was raised from a local membership to full membership.

It was pointed out that the opening ceremony and welcome cocktail of the congress, which was completed over two days, was held at Near East University Museum of Classical and Sports Cars. Moreover, it was stated that Dean of Faculty of dentistry, Prof. Dr. Mutahhar Ulusoy; Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şalıdağ; Chair of Congress and Research Member of the Department of Pedodontics of Faculty of Dentistry Dt. Ferdiye Küçük and President of International Association of Dental Students Andrey Baltaev each made a speech at the opening ceremony.


It was stated that the 64 IADS MYM included speeches and the general meeting among members participating from different countries...
It was stated that the congress, 64 IADS MYM , was held at Merit Park Hotel and on its first day, a general meeting was held among representatives coming from different countries around the world. Furthermore, it was stated that the meeting was held as scientific programs; where several speeches were made. Additionally, a mini dental Olympic competition was held. Finally, on the last day of the 64 IADS MYM , the participants were taken on a touristic tour around the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

As part of the scientific program, Members of Near East University Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Güney Yılmaz; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevcan Kurtulmuş Yılmaz; Assist Prof. Dr. Aylin İslam; Dr Dt. Hakan Arınç; and Dr. Suat Günsel; from Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Bahar Gürsoy; from University of Ege, Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Ece Eden; from Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Bezgin and Prof. Dr. Kaan Orhan; in addition to Amsterdam University Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Bruna Loos and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ajp Van Strijp were spokespersons of the congress.

Speaking about the meeting, IADS General Secretary Natália Savková said, “The local organising committee of the 64thIADS MYM, Northern Cyprus 2018, has done an incredible job. They have proven that anything is possible! Despite the amount of work they had on their shoulders and challenges they had to face, they have made sure the meeting will never be forgotten by its participants.”

Students’ hand skills and theoretical knowledge were tested…
A Mini Dental Olympic competition was held to evaluate the students’ hand skills and theoretical knowledge. It was revealed that the competition had a prize and a total of 30 students participated in 10 different groups. As a result of the competition, Near East University students received 1st and 3rd prize.

Northern Cyprus Dental Students Association became a full member to International Association of Dental Students (IADS)...
At the end of the congress, the International Association of Dental Students Managing Board held a meeting together and resultantly, NEU was awarded full membership to IADS due to the successful congress.
