The first comprehensive Model United Nations Conference to be held in the TRNC with international participation will be held on May 10 at the Near East University. Global issues such as “Global Human Trafficking”, “South Africa-Israel Genocide Case” and “Nuclear Armament” will be discussed at the conference.
Near East University is bringing the Model United Nations (MUN) conferences that have been held worldwide for many years to the TRNC. The Model United Nations Conference (NEUMUN) Conference organized by the Near East Institute will be held at the Grand Library on May 10.

The conference, where students experience the functioning of the United Nations (UN), stands out as a widespread educational simulation where they develop their diplomacy, discussion and solution-making skills. The conference is the first comprehensive Model United Nations conference to be held at the university level in the TRNC with international participation.

In the conference, which aims to educate young people as individuals who are sensitive to global issues, students will represent certain countries and act like real UN delegates. Students, who will propose solutions to important issues in the world in various committees, will have the opportunity to develop skills such as diplomacy, negotiation and public speaking.

Countries will be represented in three different committees!
In the conference, where topics such as “Global Human Trafficking”, “South Africa-Israel Genocide Case” and “Nuclear Armament” will be discussed, three different committees will be formed: the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL). Participants will represent the countries previously determined in these committees, express their ideas in accordance with the rules of diplomacy and prepare draft solutions. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çıraklı, Director of the Near East Institute, stated that students will have the opportunity to develop their negotiation, persuasion, discussion and foreign language skills through diplomacy during the conference. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çıraklı said, “Our aim is to raise awareness of global issues among participants and to create an environment where they can defend their ideas within the framework of diplomatic culture and meet and discuss with young people from different cultures.”
