Academic Member of Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education Department of Turkish Teaching, Assist. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yeniasır; and Academic Member of Turkish Language and Literature Assist. Prof. Dr. Burak Gökbulut “The examination of special needs people’s perceptions based on narrative description to peers” has been published in Web of Science indexed journal- Science and Education Journal.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the study was based on inclusive education carried out for 3rd, 4th and 5th year students of a primary school. It was pointed out that the completion of stories left uncompleted by peers who have special needs provided insights on the behaviour, attitudes and perceptions of students regarding peers-students with special needs. Understanding students’ perceptions of peers with special needs promotes attaining sustainable social acceptance of peers.

Making a statement regarding their studies Assist Prof Dr Mustafa Yeniasır and Assist Prof Dr Burak Gökbulut explained that providing education to students with special needs in the same environment with students who do not have special needs is a part of inclusive education. That is, inclusive education is when all students, regardless of any challenges they may have are placed in age-appropriate general education classes. They pointed out that in order to achieve success in inclusive education, there were significant factors teachers, school management, student families and so forth.

In addition to the above, the findings of the study carried out by Assist Prof Dr Mustafa Yeniasır and Assist Prof Dr Burak Gökbulut reveal that perceptions and attitudes to peers with special needs were positive. However, more support was necessary to achieve a sustainable inclusive environment. They concluded that there was an essential need to carry out socio-cultural activities which promote more opportunities for inclusive education.
