Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin, upon assignment by Near East University, has been involved in many projects supported by the US National Institute of Health (NIH) at Cornell University for two years, focusing on Alzheimer’s, vascular disease, pediatric epilepsy, traumatic brain injury and aging.

Near East University Faculty of Engineering Biomedical Engineering faculty member and Health Operations Center Board Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin, who went to Cornell University Brain Health Imaging Institute upon assignment by Near East University, has carried out important projects for the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease for the last two years.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin conducting studies at the Brain Health Imaging Institute (BHII) affiliated with the Department of Radiology at Cornell University Weill Cornell Medical College (WCM) in New York state, United States of America (USA), has taken part in many projects supported by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and focusing on Alzheimer’s, vascular disease, pediatric epilepsy, traumatic brain injury and aging. During this period, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özşahin has been involved in research on topics such as biological characterization and treatment of memory and dementia disorders, development of target research populations for biomarker assessment, new imaging methods to improve the understanding of neurologically damaging diseases, and tissue-based characterization of diagnostic and mechanical biomarkers. The studies conducted were published in high-impact journals. Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin, who presents the research he has been a part of at prestigious conferences, also gave a seminar titled “Unraveling Neurodegenerative Changes: Microglial Activation to Glymphatic Dynamics in Alzheimer’s Disease and Innovations in Imaging” at the Near East University last week.

The research Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özşahin was involved in was published in important scientific journals!

Near East University Faculty of Engineering Biomedical Engineering faculty member and Health Operations Center Board Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin’s research at Cornell University Brain Health Imaging Institute has also been featured in the world’s most respected scientific journals in his field.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin’s studies published in Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease Reports, American Journal of Neuroradiology, Brain Communications and Pharmaceutics have addressed innovative imaging techniques to be used to detect diseases that cause deformation in brain cells, particularly Alzheimer’s.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin: “I will be very happy to share this important knowledge and experience that I have gained with the support of Near East University with my students and the scientific world.”

Stating that Cornell University Faculty of Medicine is one of the most important medical schools in the world, Near East University Faculty of Engineering Biomedical Engineering faculty member and Health Operations Center Board Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin said, “It was a great experience and honor for me to work with leading scientists in the field at the Brain Health Imaging Institute of Cornell University School of Medicine.”

“The studies we conducted with a multidisciplinary approach on the complex dynamics of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s allowed us to take important steps towards expanding the boundaries of science,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin, and added “I will be very happy to share knowledge and experience I gained with the support of Near East University with my students and the scientific world.”
