Near East University academic and experienced director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derviş Zaim will chair the jury assessing the best productions of Turkish cinema at the “63rd International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.”
Award-winning director Derviş Zaim has become the president of the jury at the 63rd “Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival”, one of Türkiye’s oldest film events. Serving as the president of the jury for the “National Feature Film Competition”, Zaim continues his studies alongside his film career as a lecturer at the Faculty of Communication at Near East University, which is among the top 500 universities in the world.
The “63rd International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival”, to be held between October 24-31, is one of Turkey’s most prestigious film organizations with a history spanning over sixty years. Bringing together important names from the world of cinema each year, the festival rewards the most successful productions and filmmakers of the year through its National Feature Film Competition.
Throughout his career, director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derviş Zaim, whose films have left their mark on the festival and competed numerous times, has won a total of 18 Golden Orange awards in different years with his films “Scissor-Kick in Coffin”, “Elephants and Grass”, “Waiting for Heaven”, “The Point”, and “Shadows and Figures”. His film “Coffin Kick” won “Best Film” and “Best Screenplay” awards at the 33rd Antalya Film Festival in 1997, while Ahmet Uğurlu won “Best Actor” and Mustafa Preşeva won “Best Editing”. Considered one of the most successful directors in the festival’s history, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zaim will this time be the head of the jury evaluating productions that will shape the new era of Turkish cinema.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derviş Zaim, who continues to combine film production with academic work, continues to transfer the experience he gained at international festivals to both the world of cinema and academia. Who is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derviş Zaim?
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derviş Zaim, an internationally recognized director, writer, and producer, continues his film production alongside his academic work. Having directed 10 feature films and 2 documentaries to date, Zaim graduated from Boğaziçi University’s Business Administration Department, then completed a master’s degree in Cultural Studies at Warwick University and a proficiency in cinema at Maltepe University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. Currently a lecturer at Near East University’s Faculty of Communication, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zaim shares his international cinematic experience with his students, contributing to the development of future communicators and filmmakers.
