The new design birth ball, produced in collaboration with Near East University Health Sciences Faculty Midwifery Department and NEU3D Laboratory, was produced to reduce back and genital area pain experienced during birth, shorten the duration of birth and increase the satisfaction of pregnant women with birth.
Severe back and abdominal pain are among the most common complaints of women during normal births. Increased back and abdominal pain from the moment birth begins not only disturbs women but also causes many of them to fear and avoid normal birth. The new design birth ball, produced in collaboration with Near East University Health Sciences Faculty Midwifery Department and NEU3D Laboratory, combines many functions, reduces birth pains and shortens the duration of birth, allowing pregnant women to have a much more comfortable birth process.
Scientific studies have shown that active movements such as walking, sitting, swinging and springing on the ball during the birth process shorten the duration of birth compared to waiting in a horizontal position. On the other hand, there are also studies showing that warming up the genital area with waist and back massage reduces birth pain. The new design birth ball, produced in collaboration with the Near East University Health Sciences Faculty Midwifery Department and NEU3D Laboratory, brings together these applications that can be applied independently during the birth process in a single device.

It was registered under the name of Near East University by the Turkish Patent Institute!
The innovative birth ball designed by Near East University researchers was produced and put into use by the NEU3D Laboratory, which operates within the Near East University Innovation and Information Technologies Center and has over a hundred 3D writings. The “Multifunctional Birth Ball” developed through the joint study of Near East University Health Sciences Faculty Midwifery Department Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Betül Mammadov, Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital Pediatric Surgery Department Pediatric Surgeon Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emil Mammadov and Near East University NEU3D Laboratory Electrical and Electronics Engineer Dr. Görkem Say was registered as a “Utility Model” by the Turkish Patent Institute under the name of Near East University. Utility models are granted to protect the property rights of inventions that create a previously unknown product or that create improvements in an existing product.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “The projects we develop strengthen our goal of being a pioneer in health technologies and our vision of producing solutions that touch human life.”
Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, who said “We see supporting research and innovation studies that respond to social needs as one of our primary goals,” also added; “‘Multifunctional Birth Ball’ project registered as a Utility Model by the Turkish Patent Institute is one of the results of this approach.”
Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “This innovative device, developed in collaboration with our Faculty of Health Sciences and NEU3D Laboratory, is an important step towards making women’s birth process more comfortable. The projects we develop strengthen our goal of being a pioneer in health technologies and our vision of producing solutions that touch human life. We believe that this important invention, which will contribute to the birth process, will provide great benefits for mothers and health professionals. The support our university provides to interdisciplinary research will continue to bring about similar innovative projects.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Betül Mammadov: “The new design birth ball provides a more comfortable birth for pregnant women and increases women’s birth satisfaction.”
Making a statement about the new design birth ball they developed, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Betül Mammadov, a faculty member at the Midwifery Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Near East University, said, “The new design birth ball provides a more comfortable birth for pregnant women and increases women’s birth satisfaction.”
Stating that birth is a stressful process for pregnant women despite being a natural and unique experience, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mammadov said, “In the study we conducted with pregnant women using the multifunctional birth ball, there was a decrease in the pain scores of the pregnant women, that the pregnant women especially liked the heating and massage functions, and that their birth satisfaction scores were higher.” Emphasizing the importance of keeping pain and stress under control during childbirth, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mammadov said that the use of the new design birthing ball will become widespread in clinics and will provide a more comfortable birth experience for pregnant women.
