The new chairman of the TRNC Microbiology Platform, which operates as a working group within the Turkish Microbiology Society (TMC), became Assoc. Prof. Dr. Buket Baddal.

The new term administrations of all working groups operating under the body of the Turkish Microbiology Society (TMC) were determined by the general assemblies held simultaneously in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. In this regard, the new term board of directors of the TRNC Microbiology Platform was also elected by the general assembly. In the election where Founding President Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ was not a candidate, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Buket Baddal was elected president.

Near East University Faculty of Medicine Department of Medical Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emrah Ruh was elected General Secretary of the platform. Near East University DESAM Research Institute Director Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Cyprus International University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Microbiology lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Seyer and Vocational School of Health Services member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Güvenir were elected as platform executive board members.

TRNC Microbiology Platform will continue to work for the microbiology community
TMC-TRNC Microbiology Platform aims to strengthen the cooperation between microbiologists in Turkey and TRNC, to organize scientific meetings and trainings in cooperation, to inform the society correctly and to ensure the protection of public health in the country. The “Applied COVID-19 PCR Academy” held by the platform on September 7-8, 2020, in the TRNC regarding SARS-CoV-2 and the tests used in the diagnosis, which came to the agenda with the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, attracted great attention by scientists in the country.

On May 29, 2020, the “Epidemic Diseases and Mathematical Modeling: TRNC Experience” seminar was held, which focused on the innovative methods in the follow-up and control of infectious diseases, with the participation of researchers from Turkey and TRNC. At the TMC 2020 Microbiology Symposium held online on 25-27 December 2020, TMC-TRNC Microbiology Platform made presentations under the session of “COVID-19 Pandemic in the TRNC with Scientific Data” and shared the latest developments in the country with the scientific world. Planning many practical courses, seminars and panels in the TRNC for the 2022 period, the TMC-TRNC Microbiology Platform is planning activities for the use of innovative technologies in the diagnosis of infectious diseases in the new period.
