The PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, designed and developed by Near East University scientists, has been approved for use by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey. Thus, the TRNC’s native PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, developed and produced by the Near East University together with Hibrigen Biotechnology, will be used in Turkey as well.
The PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, developed to detect the COVID-19 disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, determines the presence of the virus in less than an hour, while at the same time detecting its variants.
The SARS-CoV-2 PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, designed entirely by Near East University scientists, has been approved and used as a strong domestic alternative to the test kits imported by the TRNC from abroad, with the approval of the Ministry of Health of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in July 2021.
Emphasizing that it is a proud step for the country that the TRNC’s native PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, of which all R&D and design processes were completed at the Near East University, received approval from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “It is a great pride for our university and our country that our local PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, which we have provided for use in our Northern Cyprus during the pandemic process, has been approved for use by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey.”
Stating that the PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, developed within the Near East University, is one of the most comprehensive variant analysis kits among the kits used commercially around the world, Prof. Dr. Günsel said, “We will continue to introduce value-added products to the world with many projects developed and designed by our scientists in our own research laboratories.” Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel also said, “I congratulate once again all our scientists who contributed to the development of the TRNC’s indigenous PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit.”
Near East University Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, on the other hand, emphasized that they are working for society to overcome the COVID-19 process with the least damage with the help of the many pieces of research and projects they have carried out during the pandemic process, and said, “Contributing to the needs of our state and people by making the PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit that we have developed for use in the TRNC is one of the most important steps.”
Reminding that they produced the PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit they developed together with Hibrigen Biotechnology, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “The kit we have developed gives all the results that will detect COVID-19, including variant analysis, in less than an hour. It is a very important step to offer our product for use in Turkey, after obtaining a usage permit from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey. I would like to thank all my colleagues who contributed to this success.”
