250 police trainees were informed about professional communication skills in a training program organized in collaboration between Near East University’s Lifelong Learning Center and the General Directorate of Police.

Near East University, ranked among the top 500 universities in the world, continues to contribute to social development not only through its scientific output but also through collaborations with public institutions and lifelong learning-focused projects. A comprehensive conference program was organized for candidates training at the Police Academy in collaboration with the Near East University Lifelong Learning Center (YABEM) and the General Directorate of Police.

In the program, which was held within the framework of the 66th Basic Police Training and the 17th Basic Firefighter Training, Near East University faculty member Assist. Prof. Dr. Tijen Zeybek provided training to police trainees on communication skills. Presentations were given on “Communication Skills in Policing”, “Body Language”, “Communication in Crisis Situations”, and “Emotional Control” to 250 participants. The importance of effective communication, particularly in security services, was emphasized, along with techniques for conveying the right message in stressful and critical moments, methods for establishing healthy communication with citizens, and the ability to maintain emotional balance.

The conferences highlighted that the policing profession is not limited to physical fitness and legal knowledge. Also, strong communication skills, empathy, and the ability to approach situations with common sense in crisis situations are also fundamental elements of professional success. Participants were informed through practical examples based on various scenarios they might encounter in their daily work.

Emphasizing that communication skills are at least as important as professional knowledge and physical fitness in security services, Assist. Prof. Dr. Tijen Zeybek, a faculty member at Near East University, stated that the training provided would make a strong contribution to the professional lives of police trainees. She pointed out that the policing profession is a special field requiring direct contact with people, patience, empathy, and effective communication skills. Zeybek stated, “It is of great importance for a police officer to approach incidents not only within the legal framework but also from a humanitarian perspective. Effective communication allows many problems to be resolved before they escalate.”

Emphasizing that universities also guide the development of society, Assist. Prof. Dr. Zeybek added, “With this understanding, we continue our educational support by collaborating with public institutions.” Stating that such programs contribute to both individual development and the quality of public services, Assist. Prof. Dr. Tijen Zeybek added that the training of future police candidates as well-equipped individuals is of great importance for public safety.
