At the seminar titled “Affective Attachment and Separation Anxiety” held at the Near East University Grand Library, the effects of attachment styles on psychological health were discussed, 400 people filled up the hall.

The Psychology Days-1 seminar organized in cooperation with the Near East University Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Psychology, Dean of Students and Psychology Club was held under the title of “Affective Attachment and Separation Anxiety”.

The seminar held at the Near East University Grand Library shared important information about the effects of affective attachment styles on the psychological health of individuals and methods of coping with separation anxiety. The opening speeches of the seminar moderated by Dr. Fahriye Balkır, Faculty Member of the Psychology Department, were made by Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul.

The seminar, which was held in two sessions, offered a comprehensive experience in terms of both academic and personal development. In the seminar, Near East University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Department of Psychology faculty members Dr. Bade Yaya, Head of the Department of Psychology Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ezgi Ulu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bingül Subaşı, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Buran and Head of the Department of Psychology Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Karaaziz shared their knowledge and experiences with the participants. The seminar provided a comprehensive experience in terms of both academic and personal development. At the end of the seminar, certificates of appreciation were presented to the speakers by Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul.

Strategies and approaches required for establishing healthy relationships were examined
Academicians presented important strategies and approaches to the participants that will strengthen their individual and relational development with their presentations. In her presentation titled “Attachment Styles: A Basic Approach for Healthy Relationships”, Dr. Bade Yaya spoke on how individuals’ attachment styles are shaped by their emotional experiences, especially in childhood, and what role they play in adult relationships. Emphasizing the differences between secure and insecure attachment types, Dr. Bade Yaya explained the approaches that should be adopted in order to establish healthy relationships.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ezgi Ulu shared ways to build trust, techniques for overcoming attachment traumas, and strategies for establishing healthy relationships with her presentation titled “Solution to Affective Attachment Problems: Strategies for Healthy Relationships.” Assist. Prof. Dr. Bingül Subaşı offered suggestions on how confronting separation can become a healthy experience on an individual and relationship level in her presentation titled “From Attachments to Freedom: Confronting Separation Anxiety.” Assist. Prof. Dr. Bingül Subaşı offered practical ways to overcome separation anxiety and manage this process in a healthy way. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Karaaziz, who addressed the critical role of attachment, separation, and reconnection processes in the emotional development of individuals with her presentation “Connecting, Separating, Reconnecting,”, explained in detail how managing these processes in a healthy way can have a significant impact on increasing the quality of relationships.

Expressing his satisfaction for intense participation in the seminar, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “Such events provide an extremely precious platform in terms of both academic knowledge sharing and intellectual development. Our main goal is for our students to take more place on these platforms, express their own ideas freely and speak courageously in front of the public.” Rector Şanlıdağ continued as follows; “Because we aim to raise a youth that not only learns, but also thinks, questions and produces. Individuals who defend their ideas with self-confidence and have a critical perspective will be the greatest gain of our university. The contributions and energy of everyone present here today will allow us to carry this mission even further.”

Stating that the “Affective Attachment and Separation Anxiety” seminar organized by Near East University for the first time aims to increase both academic and individual awareness levels, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul emphasized that the seminar made an important contribution in this sense. Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul said “With the in-depth analyses and valuable sharing of our academics, we have once again understood the effects of attachment styles on the psychological health of individuals and how these actually touch our daily lives. Such intense participation has shown us once again that we are on the right track. As Near East University, we aim to increase and diversify programs that will contribute to the academic and personal development of our students. In this context, we will listen more to student requests and prioritize organizing events that are geared towards their needs.”
