The great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was commemorated with a ceremony held in front of the “Atatürk Monument” on the Near East University campus on the 85th anniversary of his death. At the ceremony held with the intense participation of academics, students, administrative staff and GÜNSEL employees, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, accompanied by students, laid a wreath at the Atatürk Monument.

When the clocks showed 09.05, which is the moment the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk passed away, a moment of silence was observed. At the ceremony, which ended with the National Anthem, the flags on the Near East University Campus were lowered to half-mast.

In his written statement, stating that they commemorate the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk with feelings of love, gratitude and mercy on the 85th anniversary of his death, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ emphasized that Atatürk was a great and immortal leader who left a mark not only for the Turkish nation but also for the whole world. Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “Atatürk laid the foundations of the Republic of Turkey, built a modern state and shaped the future of our nation.”

Stating that Near East University is progressing on the path enlightened by Atatürk, with its pioneering role in the fields of science, art and technology, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “We will continue to work to raise a bright youth worthy of him.”
