2018-2019 Spring Term graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of Near East University was realized with the participation of the parents.

The directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that 2018-2019 spring term graduates of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of Near East University received their diplomas with a glorious ceremony realized with the participation of vice Rector Professor Tamer Şanlıdağ, Faculty Dean Professor Erdal Aygenç, faculty members, graduates and their parents.

The Graduation ceremony began with a moment in silence in memory of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Turkish Cypriot Leader Dr. Fazıl Küçük, TRNC Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş and all martyrs.

Following the singing of National Anthem, opening remarks were delivered respectively by Faculty Dean Professor Erdal Aygenç and vice Rector Professor Tamer Şanlıdağ.

Underlining the important role of art in adding color and vividness to social life, Faculty Dean Professor Erdal Aygenç stated that art was not a mirror to hold up to society, but a hammer with which to shape it.

“Dear graduates, today you are graduating from a leading, enterprising and innovative university that has actualized great accomplishments in education, science, technology, health, arts. As a graduate of a prominent university, you are setting a foot on the route towards your new life. Trust yourselves; your distinguished teaching staff raised you well. You have all indulged in and tasted the magic joy of art production. The great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said that artist was the person to feel the light first and instantly after long work and efforts. I would like to underline the words "after long work and efforts" because you have completed only a point of this long process. Your works and efforts related to art will surely continue in the future. I firmly believe that you will leave your marks on whatever you work on. Art speaks when words remain insufficient to explain. I wish you all continued success".

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ: "Along with Cyprus Car Museum, Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, Cyprus Herbarium Museum and Natural History Museum, a total of 7 museums will come to life at Near East University..."
Underlining that Near East University meant quality and accomplishment in science, art and education, Professor Şanlıdağ stated that Near East University and her sister University of Kyrenia had adopted lifelong education encompassing all between 2 and 60+ years of age.

“To this end, we have opened "60+ Refresher University" for persons over 60 years of age. Besides, we have opened Children's University for children aging 2-17. Another fundamental goal of our university is to be amongst the world's top 500 universities and maintain this on a sustainable basis” noted he.

Expressing that the Museum Zone had been launched on the university campus as a part of projects concerning culture, history and arts, NEU vice Rector Professor Şanlıdağ said that they had actualized Cyprus Car Museum, the Cyprus Herbarium Museum and Natural History Museum so far. "Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts is currently under construction. It is scheduled to open its doors on November 15, 2020. Three new museums consisting of Cyprus Turkish National History Museum, Maritime Museum, Knife and Sword Museum have been designed to be constructed. Consequently, a total of 7 museums located in the Museums Zone on Near East University Campus will be a clear indicator showing the importance that Near East University attach on culture and art. All these museums will have a crucial role in promoting our country to the world. An art bridge connecting Central Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean is being built up. Our domestic artists together with artists from Turkey and Turkic republics and communities are building up this bridge. Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts will be a unique art destination reflecting solely Turkic art and culture. Currently, more than 10 thousand of artworks of various art forms constitute the core of the inventory of the museum. It is clear that this number will exceed 20,000 when Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts open its doors on 15 November, 2020” said he.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ ended his remarks by congratulating the graduates and extended his appreciations to the faculty members and the parents for their unique support and contributions.

Following the speeches, NEU vice Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ presented medals and their diplomas to the faculty's top scoring graduates. Then, the faculty members presented the diplomas to all graduates. The graduates experienced the graduation joy by throwing their caps. Then, the opening of the exhibition featuring the graduation projects of the graduates of Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design was realized.
