Hosted by Near East University, the “International Communication Days 2026” will bring together academia, industry, and creative fields on an international scale to discuss the transformation of communication in the age of artificial intelligence.
The “International Communication Days 2026,” which holds a significant place in the international academic calendar, will be held on May 13-14-15 at Near East University. This year’s 13th symposium will be carried out in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in collaboration with the Communication Research Center (ILAMER) of the Faculty of Communication at Near East University and Üsküdar University.
The symposium, themed “Artificial Intelligence in Communication: Theory and Practice,” will be held both in person and online. Over three days, the symposium will address the transformations in the fields of communication and media from a multi-dimensional perspective, focusing on artificial intelligence.
The symposium aims to bring together expert academics, researchers, graduate students, and professionals working in the field of communication; the intersection of artificial intelligence and the communication discipline will be discussed from theoretical and practical perspectives. Participants will be able to contribute to the symposium with theoretical and empirical studies, as well as case analyses, creative projects, and applied research. Due to its interdisciplinary structure, the event will be open to participation from different fields, including communication studies, social sciences, humanities, and creative industries.
A broad discussion area centered on artificial intelligence…
The symposium will cover a wide range of topics, from the relationship between artificial intelligence and communication theories to the new conceptual needs emerging in the field of communication; from discussions on algorithmic culture, surveillance practices, and digital privacy to the transformation in the political economy of media. How artificial intelligence transforms cultural studies, media production processes, and popular culture will be assessed, along with its effects on communication education, journalism, content production, and verification mechanisms.
The symposium will discuss artificial intelligence applications in advertising, marketing, and public relations, as well as new forms of production emerging in audiovisual media, digital art, virtual reality, and creative industries. In addition, the impact of AI-powered data analytics on academic research and methodology, new pedagogical approaches in education, and digital classroom experiences will be discussed. Also, ethics, regulation, and policy will be discussed in the context of the societal consequences of AI. The effects of AI on employment and labor processes in communication-related professions are also among the symposium’s prominent agenda items.

The Symposium Organizing Committee is co-chaired by Prof. Dr. Gül Esra Atalay, Dean of the Faculty of Communication of Üsküdar University, and Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap, Dean of the Faculty of Communication of Near East University. The Chinese Communication University will also participate in the symposium.
