The 640-page Pharmacognosy and Phytotherapy book, which is shown as one of the most important works brought to the Turkish Pharmacy Literature in recent years and written by Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy, Head of Pharmacognosy Department Prof. Dr. K. Hüsnü Can Başer and his student, retired faculty member Prof. Dr. Neşe Kırmızıer, was published.

A new pharmacognosy textbook has not been written since the 70s
“In 2021, when we are celebrating the 182nd year of scientific pharmacy, we are faced with the fact that although there are dozens of pharmacy faculties in Turkey and the TRNC, a contemporary pharmacognosy textbook has not been written since the 1970s,” said Prof. Dr. K. Hüsnü Can Başer and added, “We have prepared this book with the aim of sharing our knowledge with all pharmacy students. The fact that Phytotherapy, which has been on the agenda in our country as well as all over the world in recent years, is taught as a compulsory course in many faculties, has revealed the necessity of presenting up-to-date information in this field together with Pharmacognosy. In addition to general pharmacognosy information, our book also includes information on active substance groups and the use of related drugs in phytotherapy.”

In addition to the faculties of pharmacy, the book can be used as a modern textbook in faculties of agriculture, food engineering and health sciences. It is stated that it can be an important and reliable source for people who are interested in phytotherapy and aromatherapy.

Prof. Dr. K. Hüsnü Can Başer, “Pharmacognosy, as the science of medicinal and aromatic plants, is an important vocational course in the pharmacy education curriculum.”
