The “Fine Arts April Exhibition”, consisting of the works of award-winning artists, was opened by the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hüseyin Çavuş, at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center Exhibition Hall

“Fine Arts April Exhibition”, which brings together 50 works exclusively prepared by the artist academics of the Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design and the artists of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, was opened by the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hüseyin Çavuş, at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center Exhibition Hall.

The exhibition will be open to visitors free of charge until May 15. It consists of 50 works of painting, sculpture, ceramics, stained glass and printmaking.

At the opening ceremony of the 458th exhibition of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş, Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Meltem Nalça Andrieu and Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Dean Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç made speeches.


Hüseyin Çavuş: “With these works, awareness will be created and young generations will improve themselves by gaining different perspectives.”
Speaking at the opening of the “Fine Arts April Exhibition”, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş said, “Today, we are happy to celebrate the universal language of art by taking one more step into the fascinating world of art. Art serves as a bridge between cultures and allows people to express their feelings in the deepest way.”

Reminding that there are works symbolizing TRNC in every corner of the Near East University campus, Minister Çavuş referring to the recently opened Dr. Suat Günsel Mosque said, “It is very important that such a meticulously thought out and masterfully executed work is unique to the TRNC in every detail. I congratulate my teacher Dr. Suat once again wholeheartedly for all these achievements.”

Minister Çavuş said, “In the works we will examine, we will feel the emotions and lives of our artists together with them. With these works, awareness will be created and young generations will improve themselves by gaining different perspectives.”


Prof. Dr. Meltem Nalça Andrieu: “Universities should offer a holistic perspective to society by strengthening the bond between art and science. Near East University fully fulfills this responsibility with the scientific and artistic productivity it hosts.”
Near East University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Andrieu stated that universities should offer a holistic perspective to society by strengthening the bond between art and science. Prof. Dr. Meltem Nalça Andrieu said, “When we think about the relationship between art and science, they are actually both expressions of human creativity and desire to discover. Universities are responsible for building and nurturing the bridge between these two fields.”

Prof. Dr. Nalça Andrieu emphasized that Near East University has fully fulfilled this responsibility with the scientific and artistic productivity it hosts.

Prof. Dr. Andrieu also touched upon the “International Student Congress” and the “Workshop on the Effective Use of Water in Agricultural Production of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” and said, “Today, we are experiencing a meaningful day where scientific activities and art exhibitions take place side by side. At the end of such a busy day, we are here to get acquainted with various forms of art with our Fine Arts April Exhibition. All works in the exhibition reflect the rich and diverse world of art. In addition, every detail we see reminds us that art speaks the universal language.”


Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç: “Creating works of art, as well as storing, protecting and exhibiting them with great sensitivity, has always been the priority of the art world.”
Dean of Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç, started his speech by stating that the Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Faculty Staff Exhibition, which has become a tradition since 2010, gained a new momentum, form and content with the establishment of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts.

Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç emphasized that creating a work of art is not an orderly process and said, “You can have a road accident at any time. First of all, you should not allow uncertainty and be prepared for the big or small chaos factor that lurks around every corner and is eager to infiltrate.” Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç emphasized that the colors used in the works represent the difficulties experienced by the artist. Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç read Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu’s poem “A Pair of Colors”.

Prof. Dr. Aygenç finalized his words by saying “As much as creating works of art, storing, protecting and exhibiting them with great sensitivity has always been the priority of the art world. In this sense, experiencing the rise of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts step by step is a source of indescribable excitement and pride.I hope to be together for many more days on our journey with art, which is the ladder of high civilization.”
