It was announced that the exhibition of 90 art pieces of 14 Academician Artists titled as “Art and Print Exhibition of Turkish Artists” has been opened by Minister of Economy and Energy Hasan Taçoy.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the opening ceremony of the exhibition was held at Exhibition Hall of Faculty of Communication of Near East University to which Minister of Economy and Energy Hasan Taçoy, Founding Rector of Near East University Dr. Suat İrfan Günsel, Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan, Vice Rectors, Deans, Academicians, and art lovers attended.

It was pointed out that Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan, on behalf of the artists from Turkey, Dean of Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture of Düzce University Prof. Dr. Yıldız Doyran, and Minister of Economy and Energy Hasan Taçoy each made a speech at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

Productivity, Creativity and Dynamics of Being together have been reflected through art…
Making the opening speech of the exhibition, Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan expressed that he was inspired by art and artists and that this exhibition had become a medium where style, material and print techniques have been reflected beautifully.

Prof. Dr. Hassan added that the pieces were created at print workshops of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design and that the artworks were like a feast, all produced as a result of hard work and talent. He stressed that these pieces will later be added to the inventory of Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts and therefore be preserved for future generations.

In addition to the above, Prof. Dr. Hassan, stated that apart from individual productivity and creativity, all the dynamics of being together were a distinctive tonality of art. The fact that the Günsel family is in the art designs has a profound effect on the cultural, social, educational, health and political recognition of the Turkish Cypriot people. Moreover, he stated that the art pieces to be exhibited that day were to be added to the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts and thus enriching its contents further; and this will thus cause a significant momentum on art lovers, intellectuals, visitors to our country. It was stated that in his speech, Prof. Dr. Hasan included details regarding print techniques and what the artists expressed through their art.


Prof. Dr. Doyran: “We have full support to works related to art…”
Speaking on behalf of artists, Dean of Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture of Düzce University, Prof. Dr. Yıldız Doyran welcomed everyone to the opening ceremony of the exhibition. He stressed that he closely followed the artistic and scientific developments of the Near East University with respect. He also pointed out that the establishment of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts and that they came rushing, with great excitement to come and contribute to this museum.

Prof. Dr. Doyran emphasised that universities were a means to make connection and wanted to thank everyone involved in realising the event. He assured that they were ready to support the new project of Near East University and expressed great gratitude for the hospitality they had received throughout their stay on the island. He ended his words by stating that as a son of a Cyprus veteran soldier, he was always ready to help.

Minister Taçoy: “Near East University Provided Cross-Country Social and Cultural Integration…”
Minister of Economy and Energy Hasan Taçoy addressed Suat Günsel as his true tutor as he had previously been taught and inspired by him; and therefore, expressed many thanks to Suat Günsel for giving direction to his life.

He said that he always attempted to comprehend Suat Günsel’s philosophy and that he knew that the love for art was always within him. Furthermore, he said that Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts was an initiative that will leave a mark on the promotion and development of our country. He expressed that he was talking to his friends regarding what could be done for the artists coming to the country. He pointed out that thanks to Suat Günsel, artists found the opportunity to be inspired by the beauties of this country which were then reflected via their art.

Minister Taçoy characterized the exhibition as a beauty in which patience and time are combined and revealed and highlighted and congratulated the artists since the knowledge given in the details of the works done patiently to reveal the thoughts of artists rather impressed him.

Minister Hasan Taçoy stated that it was rather significant to conduct cross-country cooperation and that the first steps to this cooperation was through social and cultural integration. He added that the social and cultural understanding between two countries and the development of this understanding began by this way. He said that then came commercial, customs, monetary and political cooperation. Furthermore, he expressed that Thanks to Near East University, it was a joy to catch up with Turkic countries which have similar cultures. In fact, he stated that these were opportunities for our country to be promoted and also increase chances of operations. In this regard, the Minister expressed that he wished to express gratitude to the Günsel family for assuring all of these.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was realised…
Subsequent to the speeches, the artists from Turkey were presented plaques of gratitude by Minister of Economy and Energy Hasan Taçoy and the opening ribbon was cut. It was stated that the exhibition, which includes oil-paintings, acrylic, prints, metal engravings, screen printing, monotypes, is available to visit until 15 June 2019 during 08:00-16.00.
