It was announced that the exhibition of 30 art pieces of 7 Kazakh artists titled as “Kazakh Artists Exhibition” was opened by the Minister of Tourism and Environment of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Fikri Ataoğlu.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the opening ceremony of the exhibition was held at Exhibition Hall of İrfan Günsel Congress Centre, Near East University to which the Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Özay Günsel Children’s University, Anna Günsel, Vice Rector of Near East University  Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Deans, academicians, artists and guests attended. Furthermore, it was stated that Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, on behalf of the Kazakh artists Yelena Tyo and Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu each made a speech at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ: “We are forming a bridge of art from Asia to the Mediterranean!”
Making the opening speech of the exhibition, Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, stated that an indestructible bridge of art is being formed between Asia and the Mediterranean. Furthermore Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ provided details regarding the 30 art pieces of the 7 Kazakh artists and asserted that within the last 7 months, 40 exhibitions have been held; and that currently there were 9 exhibitions available to visit on Near East University campus.

In addition to the above, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ stated that the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts is to be opened on 15th November 2020, brining 7 museums to the service of art-lovers; including the Car Museum, National History Museum, Maritime Museum, Herbarium and Natural history Museum and Blade and Sword Museum. Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ emphasised that in order for the Turkish Cypriots to survive, they were required to know their history well. He added that jointly founded by the Near East University and University of Kyrenia, National History Museum will be the first of its kind for the service of the Turkish Cypriots. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ stated that when Near East University is considered in this geographical position, it brings certain connotations like education, science, art and innovation. He said that Near East University has internalised the notion of being a fourth-generation university; and academic studies offer all the scientific outputs of research, R & D activities for the benefit of society. Since the date of foundation, Near East University is continuously progressing on the path of being the centre of global information and aims to be among the first 500 best universities in the world.

Yelena Tyo: “We have been given warm welcoming and hospital during our stay in Cyprus…”
Speaking on behalf of the Kazakh artists, Yelena Tyo placed emphasis on the significance of cooperation between countries on art and cultural activities and events.  Moreover, it was stated that in their paintings, they tried to reflect the colours of their country, the characteristics of human image and the characteristics of national customs and traditions. Additionally, it was stated that they wished to thank everyone for the warm welcome of the hospitable people of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and thank for giving the opportunity to see the beauty and the sights of the island. Also, t was pointed out that during their stay on the island, they spent the time here in the atmosphere of friendship, creativity and comfort.

Yelena Tyo: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to meet artists from different countries and make new friends. All of you welcome to the exhibition and we hope that our works will leave a mark and take their place in your hearts”.

Minister Ataoğlu: “I congratulate the Near East University for its significant contributions to the island in terms of art…”
Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu stressed that Near East University has made an on-going effort to positively contribute and support art and artists. He also stated that he had observed that the university has actually achieved its set goals much before than expected.

Additionally, he asserted that he felt a strong need to thank the Near East University as great efforts were put forward in terms of bringing artists from abroad to reflect the beauties and the richness of the island via their art.

Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu expressed many thanks to the Near East University family for all the contribution they have made to the art of this country. He also congratulated them for taking significant steps in this direction. He defined the day as a great opportunity to spend a beautiful day together.

The exhibition was visited…
It was stated that subsequent to the speeches made, Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu presented certificates of gratitude to the Kazakh artists, then the opening ribbon was cut, and the exhibition was visited. It was announced that the exhibition was available to visit until 30th May 2019 at 8:00-16:00 on weekdays.
