On the 35th anniversary of his death, Dr. Fazıl Küçük, Leader of Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for existence and freedom, will be commemorated with an exhibition themed "Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle". The exhibition, which is dedicated to Dr. Fazıl Küçük, will be organized collaboratively by Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts and National History Museum.
The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that the exhibition, which would be realized with the contributions of our country's artists, was dedicated to Dr. Fazıl Küçük, one of the leaders of Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for existence and freedom. It was underlined that the exhibition would be held to commemorate Dr. Fazıl Küçük on the 15th January 2019 on his 35th death anniversary. The exhibition that themed as "Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle" would be opened at Cyprus Arts Center, which is affiliated to Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts situated at the Museums Zone on Near East University Campus. The press statement also underlines that the exhibition will play a crucial role in making Turkish Cypriots' existence known widely across the globe as well as enriching the inventory of the National History Museum.

Expressing that Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for existence and freedom was of great importance, Founding Rector Günsel's Art Counselor and Director of Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, Assistant Professor Mustafa Hastürk stated that Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National History Exhibition would be held on the 15th January adding that the exhibition had great importance in terms of reflecting the years of our national struggle. In this regard, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hastürk invites all artists to contribute to the exhibition with their artworks including paintings, sculptures, ceramics and photographs reflecting the years of national struggle, or with objects specific to those years.
Underlining the significant role of art exhibitions and museums in promoting and conveying our artistic and cultural values as well as historical heritage to new generations, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hastürk stated that the artists willing to participate in the exhibition could get the necessary information from the specified communication addresses adding that the artworks to be displayed at the exhibition and other donated documents, photographic materials and memorabilia related to the Turkish Cypriot people's freedom struggle and national history would be taken under record in the inventory of the Museum of National History to be opened in 2020.

Underlining NEU's commitment to continuing to open new horizons for our people and conveying our historical heritage, cultural values and artistic accumulations to next generations, Professor Ali Efdal Ozkul stated that Turkish Cypriot people had come to these days by preserving and conveying their cultural values and historical heritage from one generation to the other. "Turkish Cypriot People shed their sweat and tears to give life to these lands on which they had been struggling for existence for 445 years. Near East University is also a product of this struggle heritage lasting for centuries. As Near East University, we are wholeheartedly bound up with these lands with great love. Near East University considers it as a duty of loyalty to lay a claim on the heritage of national struggle by rooting on these lands.
Expressing that the Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel attached a great importance on rooting on these lands to which we had been giving life for long years, Professor Özkul stated that Founding Rector Günsel with his farsighted vision mobilized all possibilities in all domains to pave the way for our people to root and bind up with these lands in such a way that no earthly force would be able to root us out from the lands on which we had been struggling for existence and freedom. Professor Ali Efdal Ozkul underlined that this basic philosophy constituted the basis of each investment made by Near East University in the fields of education, science, innovation, arts, culture and health.
Expressing that Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, which is an important cornerstone registering the existence of Turkish Cypriot people, had been brought into a being via Founding Rector Dr. Suat İ. Günsel's foresight and vision, Professor Özkul indicated that works were initiated in 2016 to establish the Museum of National History in order to better express ourselves to future generations and to provide ground for them to better understand themselves.

The Dean of NEU Faculty of Sciences and Arts and the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of National History Museum, Professor Ali Efdal Özkul delivered further information about the National History Museum, which will be opened in 2020.
"National History Museum, which will be established within the body of Near East University, is the first of its kind and aims to shed light on Cyprus Turkish History covering years from 1570/71 to present day. The museum will have a crucial task in shedding light on the past and history of Turkish Cypriots and providing information concerning our struggle to exist and to take roots on the island. To establish a museum is an extremely strenuous process. To reflect a great history to new generations is an arduous task. We have been carrying out works regarding the project for almost two years. Our aim is to create a museum which will be a learning place for our young people. The young generation needs to know their past and history well before setting out to explore the future. We want to take roots on our island so deeply that no one can remove us. The National History Museum, which will be a place where the history of Turkish Cypriots comes alive, will be consisted of three chronological sections; Ottoman Period starting with the Conquest of Cyprus in 1571 to British Colonial Period, British Colonial Period and the Establishment of the Republic of Cyprus, National Struggle Period starting from 1955 till today. The National History Museum will also be a dynamic and interactive facility where all the knowledge acquired by the project is thematically classified and made available room by room through presentations and animations. To reflect Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence and freedom by using the most contemporary audio-visual devices will be the main theme of the museum. Within the structure of the museum, all tools, materials, documents, traditional clothes and social surroundings reflecting the characteristics of their time will be exhibited thematically and chronologically. We aim to launch a museum that will exploit its potential as a learning place and play an active role with regard to lifelong learning with a human centered concept. In this context, our young people as well as visitors will have the opportunity to experience and figure out the past as if they were living in that period of history. It will be a living museum, which will continuously enhance its core collection and provide all information regarding the history of Turkish Cypriots through presentations and animations in an interactive, digital and audio-visual environment. In this regard, we are open to all sorts of contributions and invite those, who have any documents, materials and anything that reflect the history of Turkish Cypriots, to contribute to the project. The National History Museum will open its door to the visitors in 2020” said he.
