Functioning under the body of Near East University Education Foundation and organised by Cyprus Turkish National History Museum, the exhibition themed as “Cyprus Turkish National Struggle” will be opened by the Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman and photographs selected by a jury as prize winners will be exhibited.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the exhibition where 190 photographs of 50 photographers will be exhibited themed as “Cyprus Turkish National Struggle” will be opened on Tuesday, 5th March 2019 at 9:00, at İrfan Günsel Congress Centre by Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman.

Founded with the foresight and vision of Founding Rector of Near East University Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, and functioning under the Near East University Education Foundation, many photographs depicting the national struggle of the Turkish Cypriots will be exhibited at the exhibition.

It was stated that the exhibition was held under two main categories and the first category involved photographs taken during the national struggle years.

On the other hand, the second category, which had awards, involved photographs taken at places where the national struggle events were lived. It was stated that he photographs to be exhibited were about old emplacements, ditches, tunnels, public shelters, historical sites, old buildings, streets, tools and equipment used during the national struggle years.

Award winning photographs will be announced at the opening of the exhibition…
It was pointed out that as a result of the evaluation of jury of five, the award-winning photographs are to be revealed at the opening ceremony of the exhibition and awarded. Furthermore, the photographers of other photographs which have been selected worthy of exhibition are to be given certificates of participation.

Providing further details, it was expressed that photographers of old photographs category are to be presented certificates of honour.

The jury, which was formed with the directives of Managing Board of Cyprus Turkish National History Museum, will make evaluations to award 3.000TL to the winner, 2.000TL to the first runner up, and 1.000TL to the second runner up. Additionally, a special jury award will be awarded to one photographer. Furthermore, 3 people among the competitors will be awarded honorary mention. All award-winning photographs are to be announced at the opening of the exhibition.

Dean of Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Near East University and Founding Head of Cyprus Turkish National History Museum, Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul, gave an example regarding the saying on science and art which are depicted like the wings of a bird. He stated that societies who are able to use both “wings” can fly and be free. Furthermore, he said that they were aiming to shape the future with science and art through the Cyprus Turkish National History Museum.
