The “Be Kind to Yourself” seminar organized by the Near East University Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Health Sciences in collaboration with the Dikmen Municipality at the Dikmen Youth Center (DİGEM) was held with intense participation.

The seminar, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilan Kırmızı, Faculty Member of the Endodontics Department of the Near East University Faculty of Dentistry, addressed the topics of “Feed Your Future: Golden Rules for Healthy Nutrition”, “Preventive Care in Oral and Dental Health”, “Aging Healthy: Stay Safe with Balance and Movement” and “The Irresistible Beauty of Aging”.

The seminar, which was held with intense participation, was attended by Dikmen Mayor Yüksel Çelebi, Near East University academicians, students and the local public. The seminar, which brought together expert academicians in their fields, included important presentations focusing on different aspects of a healthy life, aimed to update the participants’ knowledge in this field and to ensure that they adopt the right habits for a healthy life. At the end of the seminar, Dikmen Mayor Yüksel Çelebi gave certificates to all speakers.

Public awareness activities continue on healthy aging

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilan Kırmızı, who said, “As Near East University, we are happy to organize another seminar that prioritizes rightful health in cooperation with Dikmen Municipality,” said, “We believe that these events are an important step towards increasing public health awareness.” Emphasizing that the seminar organized supports important targets in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilan Kırmızı said, “We see the concept of sustainability as the responsibility of leaving a healthy environment and a balanced social structure to future generations. We undertake this responsibility with a holistic approach that includes environmental protection, social responsibility and economic viability.”

Important tips were given on healthy nutrition and dental care!

Drawing attention to the importance of a balanced and healthy diet, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Servet Madencioğlu from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the Faculty of Health Sciences emphasized that these two elements are the foundations of making our health sustainable. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Madencioğlu, who stated that “Adopting healthy eating habits plays an important role in reducing the risk of various diseases,” pointed out that the Mediterranean diet is a suitable diet for this. Providing important information about dental health and oral care at the seminar, Dt. Naciye İzgü Bağcı, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Periodontics lecturer, made reminders about using dental floss and choosing the right toothpaste. Dt. Naciye İzgü Bağcı said, “When choosing toothpaste, choosing products containing ‘fluoride’ helps prevent the formation of cavities by strengthening tooth enamel. Products bearing the tooth-friendly logo are determined according to this test.”

Balance exercises provide strength and energy increase

Emphasizing that a balanced and active life is the key to staying safe, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuba Yerlikaya from the Occupational Therapy Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences said, “Simple balance exercises contribute to the positive impact of the aging process as well as strengthening and increasing energy.” Stating that a good posture plays a health-protective role by providing mobility and preventing pain, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuba Yerlikaya also drew attention to the negative effects of bad posture on health; “Every movement should be evaluated as an opportunity to make ourselves stronger.” Emphasizing that the aging process should be managed in a healthy way, Prof. Dr. Adile Öniz Özgören stated that strong social connections, emotional balance, a healthier lifestyle and the desire to live a peaceful life are among the positive aspects of aging. Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Near East University and Prof. Dr. Adile Öniz Özgören from the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation said, “Each of us has a different source of power. The important thing is to discover this.”
