
The Near East University Sports Club athletes who prepared for the Inter-Club Swimming Championship at the Near East University Olympic Swimming Pool made great success with 54 medals, 27 of which were gold, while also passing the Turkish Swimming Federation (TYF) age group and national team barriers.
The young athletes of the Near East University Sports Club stood out at the 11+ age Inter-Club Swimming Championship organized by the Northern Cyprus Water Sports Federation in Nicosia between April 4-6. The young athletes who trained for the tournament at the Near East University Olympic Swimming Pool have made great success with the championships they won and the records they broke. In the three-day competitions, the Near East University Sports Club won the championship cup as the champion in the “Star Boys” category and came second in the “Young Girls” category.
They returned with 27 gold, 16 silver, and 11 bronze medals, a total of 54!
In the Men’s 4×50-meter Freestyle and 4×50-meter Mixed Relay Race, the Near East University Sports Club consisting of Erten Kasımoğlu, Erten Can Kasımoğlu, Muhammed Aydın and Akman Tüzünkan came first in two categories.
In the Girls’ 4×50-meter Freestyle Relay Race, Maria Antonela Gomez, Su Baykal, Ceylin Bayraktar and Gülsen Balcı competed and their team came second. In the 4×50-meter Mixed Relay Race, Gülsen Balcı, Nejla Dereboylu, Su Baykal and Ceylin Bayraktar competed and came second as a team again, achieving significant success. The young athletes of the Near East University Sports Club achieved great success by winning a total of 54 medals. While 17 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals were won in the men’s category, they won 10 gold, 12 silver and 7 bronze medals in the girls’ category.
Their individual achievements were also impressive!
Impressive performances were also demonstrated in individual races at the championship. Barkan Cem Aykut broke the TRNC Short Course Record with a time of 00:30.51 in the 50-meter breaststroke.
Barkan Cem Aykut, who passed the Turkish Swimming Federation (TYF) age group and national team thresholds, earned the right to participate in competitions in Turkey. He also passed the Turkish Swimming Federation (TYF) 16, 17 and 18 age thresholds and the TYF national team threshold.
Akman Tüzünkan, who passed the TYF 14 and 15 age thresholds and the TYF national team threshold with a time of 00:29.28 in the 50-meter backstroke, also passed the TYF 14 age thresholds with his performance in the 100-meter backstroke and 50-meter butterfly. Another athlete who stood out in the championship was Özkan Mazhar who passed the age group thresholds in the 100-meter backstroke, 200 and 400-meter mixed races. Mazhar also managed to pass the national team threshold in the 100-meter backstroke category. Erten Can Kasımoğlu also took his place on the individual success list by passing the TYF 13-year-old threshold with his performance in the 50-meter breaststroke.
