The “Barrier-Free Kitchen Workshop” was held in cooperation with the Near East University Tourism Research Center, Social Research and Development Center and the Turkish Cypriot Orthopedically Disabled Association. The workshop, which was held with intense participation, was attended by association members from various age groups, students and faculty members from the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts of the Faculty of Tourism of Near East University.

In the workshop, which was held to encourage disabled individuals to be more active and independent in the kitchen, practical tips and techniques were given for a barrier-free kitchen experience. They also exchanged information on solutions and adaptations for specific needs. The workshop organized was an important step to raise awareness about disabled individuals’ ability to enjoy the kitchen and social participation.

Reminding that Near East University operates effectively in social and cultural fields as well as qualified education, Near East University Faculty of Tourism Dean Prof. Dr. Nesrin Menemenci Bahçelerli said, “Such activities, which are carried out to alleviate the difficulties faced by disabled individuals in their daily lives and to give them more independence, play a critical role in increasing social awareness and participation.”

“We will continue to be a part of such projects that aim to touch society and improve the quality of life,” said Prof. Dr. Nesrin Menemenci Bahçelerli, and added; “We will continue to support disabled individuals to ensure their wider participation in social life and to fully reveal their potential.”
