The Advanced Heart Failure Center has become the hope of patients

The Advanced Heart Failure Center, which has been in service since it was established through collaboration of Near East University Hospital and Dr. Suat Günsel Hospital of University of Kyrenia in November 2017, provides free follow up and treatment procedures aiming at reducing the need for hospitalization of the patients.

Heart failure is a very important health problem that threatens the lives of a large number of people and disrupts the quality of life severely and reduces the life expectancy. In order to ensure timely and accurate intervention to minimize the vital risks associated with heart failure, to improve the life quality and prolong the life span of the patients suffering from advanced heart failure, the Advanced Heart Failure Center with her experienced and specialized heart surgery and cardiovascular surgery teams offer unmatched treatment options ranging from first line of treatments including medication, angiography, stenting, and pacemaker implantation to artificial heart or heart transplantation.

Almost 200 patients are followed up at the Advanced Heart Failure Center
Electrocardiography, chest x-ray, extensive blood tests and echocardiography tests are performed for each patient at the Near East University Hospital Advanced Heart Failure Center, where patients with advanced heart failure can be examined free of charge. The pacemakers of the patients with a pacemaker are controlled, if necessary, new medications are tailored, trainings on salt and water restriction as well as weight tracking are implemented. Since its establishment, the Advanced Hearth Failure Center has provided almost 200 patients with patient-tailored health services and their routine health controls are carried out regularly.

Underlining that heart failure is a life threatening progressive disease requiring regular follow-up of the patients, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hatice Kemal Günsel states that it is of vital importance for the patients to be strict with the recommended treatment and follow-up programs. Highlighting that the heart failure would worsen in case of inadequate treatment and monitoring, Asst. Prof. Hatice Kemal Günsel stated that the Advanced Heart Failure Center attached great importance on timely and accurate treatment as well as on monitoring process. "Equipped with the latest high-tech infrastructure, the Advanced Heart Failure Center adopts a multidisciplinary approach in evaluating and treating the patients. The Center is the only center in TRNC with a team involving dedicated specialists from different disciplines that can work well together in evaluating the patients' conditions and tailoring treatment and monitoring programs for them. This team works together before, during and after the procedure” noted she.

Reminding that the outpatient examination and follow-up fees of patients with advanced heart failure would be paid by the Near East University Foundation throughout their lives, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hatice Kemal Günsel stated that patients with advanced heart failure could receive accessible, contemporary, quality and safe healthcare services at both Near East University Hospital and Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital.

Delivering information about the services offered by a team of 15 persons consisting of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery specialists, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hatice Kemal Günsel noted: “Patients, who would like to apply to our Advanced Heart Failure Center to find out whether they suffer from advanced heart failure or they are a candidate to be a patient with advance heart failure, can apply through the appointment system. During the preliminary evaluation, the doctor will take a careful medical history of the patient and perform a physical examination. Then, the doctor may order some tests including blood test, chest x-ray, electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram, and cardiac computerized tomography. Grounding on the results of the tests, if a patient is diagnosed with heart failure or advanced heart failure, the Center register the patient within the same day and develop the most appropriate treatment and monitoring program accordingly to the classified heart failure. The patients are scheduled to be followed up for three months. Regular examination, tests, controls and follow-up programs aim to improve the life quality and minimize the need of hospitalization of the patients".
