According to the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities that based on the Google Scholar citation profiles of more than 12,000 universities across the globe, the Near East University continues to rank the top in TRNC while it ranks the 13th place among Turkish universities and the 1099th place in the world ranking. In Webometrics ranking of private universities affiliated to the Turkish Higher Education Council, the Near East University has taken the 4th place following Koç, Bilkent and Sabancı universities.
According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of NEU, Google Scholar is a web search engine that indexes metadata of scholarly literature and includes the most peer reviewed online scholarly articles. The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is a system that ranking universities according to their Google Scholar citations profiles. The rankings are updated in January and July each year.

The webometrics ranking of July 2017 has been released. Top 2000 universities from all over the world and two universities from TRNC have been ranked in the list of Webometrics Ranking of World Universities in the line with their Google Scholar citation profiles. According to Webometrics ranking of July 2017, Near East University ranks the top in TRNC and 1099th across the globe with 38,601 citations from its online scholarly publications. The Near East University ranked the top in TRNC in January 2017 as well.

The Webometrics is a ranking system that ranks the world universities by taking into account the Google Scholar profile of universities as a composite indicator that shows both the volume of the Web contents and the visibility and impact of these web publications according to the number of site citations. In Webometrics Ranking of World Universities in January 2017, the Near East University ranked the 1321st place among the top 2000 universities with 16,714 citations from its scholar publications. In the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities in July 2017, the Near East University ranked the 1,099th place with 38,601 citations. The Near East University, which ranked the 19th place amongst Turkish universities in January 2017, has risen to the 13th place in the Webometrics ranking list that released in July 2017.

Underlining that they provided the academicians with significant supports for research and developing scientific projects, Assoc. Prof. Dr. GUNSEL delivered further information: "The Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit that we established to support the scientific studies of our faculty members calls for projects twice a year. 168 projects with a total budget of 2,542,000 TL have been supported by our SRP Coordination Unit so far. The number of our publications has increased 50% compared to the previous year.
Since research studies and applications are integral parts of a whole, all applications and research studies relevant to innovative scientific projects are conducted in an interactive and interrelated manner. In order to ensure a creative environment for research, we spare no sacrifices to equip our infrastructure with the latest and most advanced technology required for scientific studies. All our units have access to their own laboratories that equipped with the cutting edge latest technology. We have strong determination in supporting new generations to generate new ideas and actualize various discoveries by benefiting from the scientific knowledge accumulation of their teaching staff. Within this scope, we offer goal-oriented and high quality programs to accommodate the demands of master's and doctoral degree students in pursuit of their advanced academic and professional careers under the umbrella of the Near East University.
