Student Newspaper “Perspective” Started Publishing

The online student newspaper of the Near East University Faculty of Communication, “Perspective”, which aims to take the pulse of the campus and develop the professional skills of young communicators, has started publishing.
The Near East University Faculty of Communication has launched a new project that supports the active participation of students in the content production process. The online student newspaper “Perspective”, prepared with the contribution of volunteer students within the faculty, has started publishing. The Perspective newspaper, of which team consists of students, aims to take the pulse of the campus and develop the professional skills of young communicators with its written and visual news content.

The newspaper, which was launched under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Demet Atay, Head of the Journalism Department of the Near East University Faculty of Communication, creates an effective environment where students can combine their theoretical knowledge with practice. The newspaper, which includes not only campus news but also student opinions, success stories, interviews and culture and art content, draws attention with its original news language. A strong publishing team with academic staff!
The Executive Editor of Perspective is Assist. Prof. Dr. Özen Çatal, Editor-in-Chiefs are Assist. Prof. Dr. Oshan Uluşan and Research Assit. Can Tunca, Corporate Communications Manager is Assist. Prof. Ufuk Altunç, and Multimedia Editor is Assist. Prof. Mert Yusuf Özlük. Shaped by the contributions of experienced academic staff, this publication is also turning into a guiding educational platform for students.

Perspective through the eyes of students…
Journalism Department students working at Perspective stated that working here was an important experience for them. Berivan Babahan, who said, “Perspective is a very important step for our careers. We can experience all the processes of journalism here,. emphasized the contribution of this platform to their professional development.

“We are waiting for everyone who wants to gain news writing and camera skills.” said Ebru Doğan, who drew attention to the opportunities offered by Perspective, and drew attention to the variety of opportunities offered to them. Stating that they have a comfortable and professional working environment, Veli Seymen Kocaer said, “We learn news writing, camera use and photography techniques with the support of our instructors. Perspective is a great environment to reinforce what we have learned.” English Journalism Department student Sara Shabiri Hussein Somjee said, “Here, we listen carefully, write target-oriented and create value with the work we do.”

Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap: “Students will be able to effectively present their concrete experiences in job applications.”
Emphasizing that Perspective will provide multifaceted contributions to students, Near East University Faculty of Communication Dean Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap said, “In addition to the theoretical knowledge they learn in class, students will have the opportunity for practical experience in areas such as press and broadcasting, public relations, digital media and journalism.” In addition, Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap stated that Perspective will support students in making a strong start in their careers by allowing them to communicate directly with industry professionals, and said, “In this way, students will have the opportunity to get to know the functioning of the industry closely, while also being able to effectively present their concrete experiences in job applications.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Demet Atay: “Perspective is not just a newspaper, it is the common voice and platform of all of us.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Demet Atay, Head of Journalism Department of Near East University Faculty of Communication, stated that Perspective newspaper publishes on the basis of respect for universal rights and freedoms, and that no discriminatory or alienating language is used in any way regarding issues such as race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, health status, disability or belief. Calling on students, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Demet Atay said, “Perspective is not just a newspaper, it is our common voice and platform. Thus, do not just read and follow, but also join us and take an active role as a content producer in different media such as news, photos, videos and podcasts.”
