Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education and the Cancer Patients Aid Association have signed a collaboration protocol to support cancer patients and raise public awareness.
The Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education, the Near East University Social Research and Development Center, and the Cancer Patients Aid Association have taken a significant step toward supporting cancer patients and raising public awareness by signing a collaboration protocol. The protocol was signed by Prof. Dr. Umut Akçıl, Dean of the Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education; Ayşe Kanlıada, President of the Cancer Patients Aid Association; and Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay and Prof. Dr. Fahriye Altınay, Presidents of the Near East University Social Research and Development Centers. Hale Alibaba, Board Member of the Cancer Patients Aid Association, and Associate Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dervişe Amca Toklu also attended the signing ceremony.
As part of the protocol, the Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education will participate actively in informative seminars, awareness campaigns, and social responsibility projects with the Cancer Patients Aid Association. Through these activities, students will gain practical experience and contribute to social activities and training programs for cancer patients. The goal is to increase student participation in social responsibility projects and strengthen cancer awareness.
Ayşe Kanlıada: “The awareness campaigns we will develop in collaboration with Near East University will raise cancer awareness in society. Our patients will feel that they are not alone.”
Ayşe Kanlıada, President of the Cancer Patients Aid Association, stated that the protocol signed with Near East University will make support efforts for cancer patients more comprehensive and effective. Kanlıada said, “Thanks to this collaboration, we will develop projects that will benefit our patients and society. The trainings, seminars, and awareness campaigns organized with student participation will raise cancer awareness in society, and our patients will feel that they are not alone.”
Kanlıada thanked Near East University’s Atatürk Faculty of Education and the Center for Social Research and Development for the collaboration protocol, saying, “I am honored to sign this protocol, which holds such great importance for society, together with you.”

Regarding the cooperation protocol they signed, Prof. Dr. Umut Akçıl, Dean of the Atatürk Faculty of Education at Near East University, said, “Our collaborations with civil society organizations continue to increase. Because we know that the university is not a knowledge production center disconnected from society; on the contrary, it is an institution that integrates with its society, diagnoses its problems, listens to its needs, and produces solutions.”
Prof. Dr. Akçıl stated, “Thanks to our collaborations with civil society organizations, our students don’t just learn theoretical knowledge; they go out into the field, volunteer, work, and connect with people. In this process, they both help others and develop themselves. They learn to embrace society, as the teaching profession requires.”

Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay, Head of the Social Research and Development Center, stated that social responsibility, quality of life, and conscious education are important steps towards shaping society. Prof. Dr. Altınay said, “Inter-institutional collaboration is crucial for improving society’s quality of life and ensuring conscious education within the framework of sustainable development goals. This protocol signed today serves as an exemplary step in this regard.”
Prof. Dr. Fahriye Altınay, co-chair of the center, said, “Scientific meetings, charity bazaars, trainings, and awareness-raising events will be held under this protocol. I wholeheartedly believe that the efforts and solidarity demonstrated here today are steps that will shape the strong society of tomorrow.”
