At the “Stem Cell Symposium” held by the Near East University DESAM Research Institute, the momentum gained in stem cell research and applications in recent years, innovations in the stem cell field and future trends in this field were discussed. In the symposium that took place with intense participation, scientists, researchers and students who are experts in the field of stem cell research came together.

At the opening of the symposium, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Near East University DESAM Research Institute Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cenk Serhan Özverel delivered the opening speeches. After the opening speeches, Near East University DESAM Founding Member and Scientific Research Projects Coordinator Prof. Dr. H. Seda Vatansever, Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Medical Biology, faculty member Prof. Dr. Sinan Güven, Ankara University Stem Cell Institute Director Prof. Dr. K. Can Akcalı, Desam Research Institute researcher Dr. Çağlar Özketen, Near East University Dental Hospital, Head of Periodontology Department, Prof. Dr. Güney Yılmaz and Desam Research Institute Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cenk Serhan Özverel made their presentations. Following the latest developments in the field of stem cells and obtaining information about the studies carried out in this field, participants throughout the symposium discussed upon the cooperation opportunities for future research.

The reflection of stem cell research in many areas has been put under the spotlight!

In the symposium, researchers mad their presentations as follows; Prof. Dr. H. Seda Vatansever, “Stem Cells- Why Are They Magical?”; Prof. Dr. Sinan Güven “Stem Cell and Organoid Technologies in Bioengineering”; Prof. Dr. Akcalı, “New Hope for a Healthier World: Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (IPSCs)”; Dr. Çağlar Özketen “Potential of Stem Cell Exosomes as New Generation Drug Delivery Systems”; Prof. Dr. Güney Yılmaz and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cenk Serhan Özverel “Biological Therapy and Lasers in Dentistry”.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “International collaborations play an important role in expanding the boundaries of science and making new discoveries.”

Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, in his speech at the opening of the symposium emphasized that stem cells offer great promise in the repair of damaged tissues, treatment of degenerative diseases and personalized medicine. Emphasizing the importance of bringing together important names in the field in stem cell research, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ stated that international scientific collaborations play an important role in expanding the boundaries of science and making new discoveries. Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “As Near East University, we cooperate with more than 100 universities and institutions around the world with this approach, which we see as one of our core values, we carry out joint studies in scientific research, publications and events. On the other hand, we host or participate in more than a thousand national and international scientific events every year. We continue to carry out important scientific studies by being at the center of the international scientific cooperation network we have created at our DESAM Research Institute, of which I am proud to be the founder.” Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ also emphasized that he believes that the scientific outputs of the symposium will inspire research and new publications that will move the field forward.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cenk Serhan Özverel: “Although stem cell research involves ethical and legal difficulties, it creates a tremendous potential for human health with proper management.”

Near East University DESAM Research Institute Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cenk Serhan Özverel stated that he carries out studies with 12 different research groups at DESAM Research Institute. Stating that the Stem Cell Research Group is among these working groups, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cenk Serhan Özverel said that they carry out multidisciplinary studies with more than 50 researchers in their working groups. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özverel emphasized that stem cell studies are a promising field for the future of humanity with their treatment and healing potential, and stated that he believes that this will offer revolutionary solutions in the regeneration of damaged tissues, organ transplantation and treatment of many diseases in the near future.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özverel stated that advances in this field are not only limited to the treatment of diseases, but also contribute to the discovery of more effective treatment methods by accelerating drug development processes, and said, “Although stem cell research involves ethical and legal difficulties, it creates tremendous potential for human health with proper management.” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özverel added that the event will also create a platform for new collaborations and projects, and thanked the participants at the end of his speech.
