Divine Chiamaka Gosioha: “I want to remind you that we write our own story, not someone else’s.”
Speaking on behalf of the graduate students, Divine Chiamaka Gosioha, top graduate of the Department of International Law, said, “I was very happy when I was told that I was the top graduate of the department. However, I started to think about what this really means. What does it mean to be the top graduate at the department? First of all, one of the most important aspects of my journey was that I was part of a group of friends who worked both collaboratively and individually to achieve our academic goals. Of course, there were moments when we wanted to give up, but we kept pushing. Did I work harder than all of them compared to this group? Was I smarter than my friends? Did I have the strongest determination to succeed? Or was I just a little better at chasing my dreams than my peers? To be honest, I couldn’t answer just by saying “yes” to these questions. And that’s when I in fact realized that we are all actually the winners of the department.”

“I want to remind you that we write our own stories, not someone else’s,” said Gosioha, and added; “The race of life is not measured by how many people are in front of us or behind us; it is only measured by the distance from where we are to where we used to be. If we see any positive difference in ourselves in terms of the knowledge we have gained and the relations we have established, then we are at the top of our game. So when I say that every student who graduates today is the best graduate student, I do not say this humbly, on the contrary, I do say this having the pride and honor of all of us.”
