Near East University and Vetsuisse-Faculty University of Zurich researchers continue to work on the project titled “Early Pregnancy Detection and Causes of Puppy Loss in Dogs” in which they collaborated. Head of the Anatomy-Histology and Molecular Biology Department of the University of Zurich, Prof. Dr. Mariusz P. Kowalewski and Dr. Miguel Tavares Pereira came to Near East University for laboratory studies to be carried out within the scope of the project.

Laboratory studies have been carried out in collaboration by Prof. Dr. Mariusz Kowalewski, Prof. Dr. Selim Aslan, Dr. M. Tavares Pereira, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Isfendiyar Darbaz, Prof. Dr. Feride Zabitler Tepik and Prof. Dr. Kamil Seyrek İntaş at the Near East University Histology and Anatomy Laboratory.

A test kit that can detect pregnancy in dogs at an early stage will be developed!
In laboratory studies that lasted two days, methods such as tissue collection, preparation of tissues, cleaning of tissues, taking and processing of sections were carried out. The project, which is closely related to dog health, aims to recognize early embryonic development in dogs and to determine pregnancy factors by revealing the mother-embryo relationship at the molecular level. The project, carried out in cooperation with Near East University and Zurich University, aims to develop a test kit that can detect pregnancy in dogs at an early stage. With current techniques, pregnancy in dogs cannot be detected before day 22. With the diagnostic kit to be developed, it is aimed to shorten this period to 10-12 days. Thus, health precautions for the mother and the baby can be taken earlier in the pregnancy.

In the project conducted by the Obstetrics and Gynecology Team of Near East University Desam Veterinary Research Group, Prof. Dr. Mariusz P. Kowalewski and Dr. Miguel Tavares Pereira from the University of Zurich, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine from Near East University Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsfendiyar Darbaz, Head of the Department of Clinical Sciences, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Prof. Dr. Selim Aslan, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Lecturers Dr. Feride Zabitler Tepik and Prof. Dr. Kamil Seyrek İntaş take place.

Prof. Dr. Selim Aslan: “While we contribute to scientific progress through international collaborations, we also include our students in our research and create opportunities for them to gain different perspectives in their fields.”
Emphasizing that they have been collaborating with the University of Zurich for many years, Near East University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Prof. Dr. Selim Aslan said, “We continue our collaboration with the University of Zurich for more than twenty years without slowing down. Within the scope of our joint project, we are happy to host our colleagues Prof. Dr. Mariusz P. Kowalewski and Dr. Miguel Tavares Pereira at our university.”

Prof. Dr. Selim Aslan said, “While we contribute to scientific progress through international collaborations, we also include our students in our research and create opportunities for them to gain different perspectives in their fields. These experiences also create opportunities for many of our students to step into successful careers at the international level.” Prof. Dr. Selim Aslan also stated that one of his students who graduated last year started his doctorate at the University of Zurich with a full scholarship.

“Each new work leads to the birth of another work. This ensures the continuous expansion of scientific discoveries and learning areas,” said Prof. Dr. Selim Aslan, and added “We will share the first findings of the studies we conducted together with the University of Zurich with the scientific world at the 2nd Symposium of European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR).”
