Co-authored by Near East University Faculty members Asst. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yeniasır and Asst. Prof. Dr. Burak Gökbulut, the article titled “An Investigation on Uighur Turkish Variant of the Folktale 'Garip and Senem” was published in (TÜRÜK) International Journal of Language, Literature and Folklore Researches.

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that the article titled as “An Investigation on Uighur Turkish Variant of the Folktale 'Garip and Senem”, which was co-authored by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yeniasır from NEU Ataürk Faculty of Education-Department of Turkish Language Teaching and Asst. Prof. Dr. Burak Gökbulut from NEU Faculty of Arts and Sciences-Department of Turkish Language and Literature, was published by the International Journal of Language, Literature and Folklore Researches that scanned by international indexes such as EBSCO, DERGİ PARK, SOBİAD and ASOS


The article presents a study consisting on 11 episodes on the similarities and differences between the Uighur variant "Aşık Garip" and its Turkish version “Garip ile Senem”. The episodes that the study probed in are as follows: Parents of Garip and Senem, The birth of the protagonist, Naming the protagonists, The education of the protagonist, Falling in love of the protagonists, Preventing the marriage of the lovers, Garip's first time away from home, Garip's returning home for the first time, Preventing Garip's marriage for the second time, Garip's returning home for the second time and conclusion (fate of the lovers and their rival). The episode on 'Forcing the hero to marry someone else' in Türkmen's study is in the Uighur variant of this folklore tale.
