Near East University’s “Proficiency in Arts” program continues to accept students for the 2024-2025 Spring Semester, with limited quotas.
The “Art and Design, Proficiency in Arts” program, carried out within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Near East University, continues to accept students for the 2024-2025 Spring Semester. Approved by the Higher Education Planning, Supervision, Accreditation and Coordination Board (YÖDAK), the program stands out as the first and only “Proficiency in Arts” program of its kind in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The “Art and Design, Proficiency in Arts” program at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Near East University is accepting its first students for the 2024-2025 Spring Semester. The program designed for those seeking to specialize in artistic and applied studies, provides artists with the opportunity to produce original works and be evaluated through creative projects and performances. It will also open up new career opportunities for graduates in both academia and the art world. The program is limited to 15 students. Applicants with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in fine arts or design should apply on time.

The Near East University campus adds value to the country’s cultural and artistic scene with its museums and regular exhibitions, while also providing opportunities for the development of new generations of artists and academics. The Cyprus Museum of Modern Art, the Cyprus Car Museum, and the Walled City Museum, with their rich collections, provide inspiration on a wide range of topics, from technology to culture and history. The Cyprus Museum of Modern Art, located on campus, provides artistic opportunities for over 3,000 artists from 14 Turkish communities in Northern Cyprus, and has already hosted 470 solo and group exhibitions in the last five years. The Walled City Museum contributes to the preservation of Nicosia’s historical fabric by preserving its cultural memory. Near East University, which has made significant contributions to artistic production in the country, aims to create a space for future artist-academics with the “Art and Design, Proficiency in Art” program launched at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design.

Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç, emphasized the importance of the “Art and Design, Proficiency in Art” program in ensuring the continuity of high-standard education in art and design in the TRNC. Prof. Dr. Aygenç said, “Our Proficiency in Art program will not only train a new generation of artists and academics, it will also lay the groundwork for projects that will resonate internationally by combining scientific research with artistic production. Prof. Dr. Aygenç also stated that graduates will have a strong presence in the academic world and art circles, and that the program will make lasting contributions to the field of art and design.
