NEU Sports Academy Athletes Dominated the TRNC Badminton National Team Selections: 8 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals!

NEU Sports Academy athletes made their mark in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Badminton National Team U17 and U19 selections. NEU Sports Academy athletes, who won the championship in 8 out of 10 categories in the tournament held in two age groups, left their mark on the tournaments by winning 8 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals.

With this success, NEU Sports Academy, operating under the Near East University, became the club that provided the most athletes to the U17 and U19 badminton national teams with 9 athletes. 4 championships were won in the competitions held in 5 different branches in the 17-year-old category. İlhan Ercan reached the top in the boys’ singles, Gökçe Mansuroğlu in the girls’ singles, while Azra Kayıkoğlu and Meyra Baştaş won first place in the girls’ doubles. In mixed doubles, İlhan Ercan and Gökçe Mansuroğlu achieved great success by becoming champions.

The success continued in the U19 category. 5 of the athletes selected for the U19 national badminton team were selected from NEU Sports Academy, which operates as part of Near East University. In addition, İlhan Ercan won first place in the men’s singles category in the 19-year-old category, Gökçe Mansuroğlu and Meyra Baştaş in the girls’ doubles, Marko Lesinger and İlhan Ercan in the men’s doubles, and Marko Lesinger and his partner Tamara Hürdeniz in the mixed doubles category.

Prof. Dr. Hakan Atamtürk, Head of the Health, Culture and Sports Department of Near East University, stated that they were proud of the great successes achieved by NEU Sports Academy athletes in badminton and congratulated the devoted efforts of the athletes, coaches and technical team, saying, “I would like to thank all our coaches, technical team and athletes who contributed to this great victory. They have made great success in line with their determination and discipline.”
