Project Management Symposium and Project Writing Workshop, organized in cooperation with Near East University, Izmir Institute of Technology and Akdeniz University, were held with intense participation

Project Management Symposium and Project Writing Workshop, carried out in cooperation with Near East University, Izmir Institute of Technology and Akdeniz University, were held under the Coordination of DESAM Research Institute. The symposium and writing workshop, which was held at a time when all of TÜBİTAK’s R&D, project and research supports were opened to researchers in the TRNC, attracted great attention.

In the workshop held after the symposium, where basic information about scientific research projects was shared, important issues in project writing in health, science, engineering and social fields were focused on.

Every aspect of project writing was discussed

In the first session of the symposium, which took place with intense participation, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ chaired the session through which Izmir Institute of Technology Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran made a presentation titled “Catching and Overcoming Change”, Sociologist and writer Prof. Dr. Besim Dellaloğlu presented a paper on “University Science: From Nature to Society”.

In the second session, Prof. Dr. Murat Özgören spoke on “Türkiye-TRNC Science Road Map”, Prof. Dr. Haydar Demirel made a presentation on “Project Evaluation from the Perspective of the Referee”, and Prof. Dr. Seda Vatansever and Prof. Dr. Gamze Tanrıöver discussed the topics “TÜBİTAK Codes Confuse Me”. The symposium continued with the project writing workshop held by Prof. Dr. Seda Vatansever, Prof. Dr. Murat Sayan, Prof. Dr. Gamze Tanrıöver, Prof. Dr. Murat Özgören and Prof. Dr. Haydar Demirel and ended with a general evaluation.

At the end of the symposium, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ presented a certificate of appreciation to Rector of Izmir Institute of Technology Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran, sociologist and writer Prof. Dr. Besim Dellaloğlu and Akdeniz University Lecturer Prof. Dr. Gamze Tanrıöver.

The opening speech of the symposium was made by Near East University DESAM Research Institute Director Assoc.Prof. Dr. Cenk Serhan Özverel. Emphasizing that funding or resources are of great importance in paving the way for researchers and enabling them to do qualified work, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özverel stated that the ‘funding’ problem of the TRNC researchers will be eliminated in the near future as a result of various initiatives they have taken with regards to this issue.

Hosting the symposium and writing workshop, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ emphasized that qualified projects are the most important outputs of scientific productivity and stated that they provide all kinds of support to academicians and researchers in their scientific research. Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ reminded that the number of articles by Near East University academics exceeded 1,750 in 2023, and said that the number of articles per faculty member was 2.8.

Emphasizing that international collaborations have an important role in increasing scientific productivity, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “Our collaborations with Izmir Institute of Technology and Akdeniz University are a good example of this. I believe that this symposium will contribute not only to our university but also to the productivity of the Turkish scientific world.”


Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran: “By opening the way for our universities in Northern Cyprus to apply to TUBITAK projects, we will be able to implement joint projects much more effectively.”
Izmir Institute of Technology Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran, who made a presentation titled “Catching and Overcoming Change” at the symposium, emphasized the importance of disciplined studies and touched upon the importance of scientific research and academic collaborations. After the symposium, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran also visited GÜNSEL, the local and national car of the TRNC, of which facilities located on the Near East University campus, and said, “It has been 5 years since my last visit. During this period, I observed great progress in the TRNC and Near East University, especially in the field of culture and arts. I watched a campus that smelled of quality and excellence throughout. This made me very happy.”

Stating that they signed a cooperation protocol between Izmir Institute of Technology and Near East University five years ago, Prof. Dr. Baran said, “I hope we will undertake many more joint projects in the coming period. By opening the way for our universities in Northern Cyprus to apply to TUBITAK projects, we will be able to implement joint projects much more effectively.”


Prof. Dr. Gamze Tanrıöver: “Project writing is an integrated work that covers many areas.”
Participating in the symposium from Akdeniz University, Prof. Dr. Gamze Tanrıöver stated that scientific and academic collaborations have a critical role in global information sharing and the development of innovative research. Underlining that these collaborations offer a wide range of opportunities for students and faculty members, Prof. Dr. Tanrıöver said that the culture of collaboration continues to develop among academicians as well as institutions.
