Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy was appointed as the vice rector responsible for health issues at Near East University. Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy spent his entire academic career at Near East University, including his doctorate education, which he started in 2007. Prof. Dr. Aksoy continues to work as a faculty member at the Department of Endodontics, Faculty of Dentistry. Prof. Dr. Aksoy also took on many administrative duties at the university and also serves as Deputy Director of the Graduate Education Institute and Board Member of the Quality and Accreditation Coordinator.

Born in 1984, Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy completed his undergraduate and graduate education at Ankara University in 2007. Then, completed his doctoral education on endodontics, which he started at Near East University in the same year, in 2012. Umut Aksoy was promoted to the rank of assistant professor at Near East University in 2013. After obtaining the title of associate professor in 2018, he was promoted to the rank of professor in 2024 by the decision of the Near East University Board of Directors.

Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ made a statement regarding the appointment of Umut Aksoy as vice rector. Emphasizing that Umut Aksoy is an esteemed scientist who was trained at Near East University and made significant contributions to the field of health and dentistry, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “I believe that he will continue his work with the same dedication and success in his role as vice rector. Prof. Dr. Aksoy’s knowledge and experiences will make significant contributions to our university’s vision in the field of health. I wish him every success in his new position and believe that his contributions to our university will continue to increase.”

Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy said that he took his first step on the Near East University campus 17 years ago, in 2007, for his doctorate education and added, “It is a great pride and privilege for me to serve as the Vice Rector of my university, where I have climbed all the steps required to be an academician, from doctorate to the rank of professor with the opportunities it provided to me.”

Reminding that Near East University trains competent professionals in all fields of health with its faculties of Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Health Sciences, Nursing and Vocational School of Health Services, Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy said, “In my new position, my top priority will be to take further our university’s education and research activities in the field of health, and to work to increase the benefits we provide to our students and society by increasing our university’s contributions to health.”
