Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprise Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel paid a congratulatory visit to İstanbul Governor Davut Gül, who graduated from the Department of International Relations of Near East University in 1999. Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel was accompanied by Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and Near East University General Secretary Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeter Tabur.

Prof. Dr. Yeter Tabur visited İstanbul Governor Davut Gül, who graduated from the Department of International Relations of Near East University in 1999, in his office and expressed their good wishes on his new position.

Davut Gül, who took office as the Governor of İstanbul on June 8, 2023, last served as the governor of Sivas and Gaziantep after many duties in the state bureaucracy. Davut Gül, who started studying at the Department of International Relations of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Near East University in 1994, successfully graduated in 1999 and started his career as a district governor in Gaziantep in 2000.

Governor of Istanbul Davut Gül, who welcomed Near East University delegation and accepted their good wishes, said, “As a Near Easterner, I am proud to closely follow the success and development of my university.”

During the visit, the student file belonging to the period 1994-1999, when he was a student at Near East University, was presented to the Governor of Istanbul Davut Gül as a souvenir.

We conveyed the latest developments regarding the progress of the Near East University and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.”

Prof. Dr. İrfan Günsel also said that they invited İstanbul Governor Davut Gül to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Prof. Dr. Günsel said, “We will soon host our esteemed Governor again on our campus, where we graduated him 24 years ago.”

Who is İstanbul Governor Davut Gül?
Gül, who graduated from Near East University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Relations in 1999, started his career as a district governor in Gaziantep in 2000.

Gül, who served as deputy district governor in Muğla’s Kavaklıdere and İzmir’s Kemalpaşa districts, was later appointed as Kırklareli Kofçaz District Governor. Davut Gül, who served as Şirvan District Governor between 2003 and 2005, Karaman Deputy Governor between 2005 and 2006, and Gürün District Governor between 2006 and 2009, was selected as the District Governor of the Year in 2009 by the Turkish Administrators Association. After serving as district governor of Gördes and Şarkışla, he was appointed Head of Department of the General Directorate of Local Administrations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2015. He served as the Governor of Sivas between 2016 and 2018, and as the Governor of Gaziantep between 2018 and 2023. Davut Gül was appointed as the Governor of İstanbul with the Presidential Decree No. 2023/287 dated June 5, 2023.
