Probiotic Strain Bank was established at Near East University

Agri-Vet Food Technologies Laboratory, which was established in cooperation with the Near East University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Agriculture, and Probiotic Strain Bank were opened.

Food safety and healthy nutrition have become one of the top priorities of our time due to economic and environmental changes. Studies that will increase efficiency in traditional food production of countries with scientific methods will play a key role in this sense.

The Agri-Vet Food Technologies Laboratory, which was established and opened in cooperation with the Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture faculties of Near East University, and the Probiotic Strain Bank will also make a significant difference with analyses and products that will increase the efficiency and standard of traditional food production in Cyprus.

Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Prof. Dr. Deniz Seyrek İntaş, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Özge Özden, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Adile Öniz Özgören, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Prof. Dr. Ümran Dal, Agri-Vet Food Technologies Laboratory and Probiotic Strain Bank Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Beyza Hatice Ulusoy and many academicians and students attended the opening ceremony. At the opening, probiotic ice cream, kefir, four-grass kefir and water kefir produced by the Near East University were also served.

Speaking at the opening, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Özge Özden and Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Prof. Dr. Deniz Seyrek İntaş shared information about the studies to be carried out by the Agri-Vet Food Technologies Laboratory and the Probiotic Strain Bank.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “The Agri-Vet Food Technologies Laboratory and Probiotic Strain Bank, which will increase the efficiency in traditional food production of our country, will also allow our academics to carry out many scientific research studies.”
Speaking at the opening, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, emphasizing that the Agri-Vet Food Technologies Laboratory and Probiotic Strain Bank were implemented in cooperation with the Near East University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Agriculture, defined it as “an important multidisciplinary study that has been implemented by collaborating with scientists working in different fields”.

Stating that Agri-Vet Food Technologies Laboratory has the ability to make many analyzes related to animal and plant foods, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ emphasized that the probiotics to be isolated with the Probiotic Strain Bank will serve an important function by meeting the need for probiotics in dairy products, beverages and many other sectors.

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “The Agri-Vet Food Technologies Laboratory and Probiotic Strain Bank, which will make a great contribution to the traditional food production of our country and increase its efficiency, will also allow our academics to carry out many scientific research studies. I wish the best for our university and our country.”

Prof. Dr. Özge Özden: “We attach great importance to local probiotic products.”
Saying that Agri-Vet Food Technologies Laboratory and Probiotic Strain Bank are the products of their joint work with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Near East University Faculty of Agriculture Dean Prof. Dr. Özge Özden emphasized that they will continue joint projects. Stating that the first of the projects they will implement will be on vegetable oil and essential oil-based edible nanomissions to extend the shelf life of the chilled snail meat called “Garavulli” in Northern Cyprus, Prof. Dr. Özge Özden emphasized that they also attach great importance to local probiotic products.

On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Özden said that they started beekeeping studies within the Faculty of Agriculture. Prof. Dr. Özden said, “Cyprus honey is a very high-quality honey. We will carry out studies to increase efficiency in beekeeping activities carried out on the island. In addition, we will continue to develop joint projects regarding the use of honey in probiotic products.”

Prof. Dr. Deniz Seyrek İntaş: “We aim to increase productivity in the country’s agriculture, animal husbandry and food production with the projects we will implement.”
Stating that the Agri-Vet Food Technologies Laboratory and the Probiotic Strain Bank will make a very important contribution to the scientific studies to be carried out in the common areas covering veterinary medicine and agriculture, Near East University Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Prof. Dr. Deniz Seyrek İntaş said, “We aim to achieve a great increase in productivity in the country’s agriculture, animal husbandry and food production with the projects we will implement.”

Emphasizing the importance of the studies carried out by scientists from different fields, Prof. Dr. Deniz Seyrek İntaş said, “We would like to thank our academicians who contributed to this project and our Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ.”
