Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, who was transferred to Near East University Hospital around 10:00 PM last night complaining of severe abdominal pain, underwent surgery with the diagnosis of umbilical hernia. Prime Minister Üstel recovered following a successful operation performed by Near East University Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Salih Müjdat Balkan and Near East University Deputy Chief Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Özant. He is currently undergoing treatment in the general surgery ward.

Prof. Dr. Salih Müjdat Balkan, who also performed the surgery, and Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek made a statement regarding Prime Minister Ünal Üstel’s condition at a press conference held at Near East University Hospital.

Dr. Hakan Dinçyürek: “The surgery was very successful. Our Prime Minister’s health is stable.”
Speaking at the press meeting, Minister of Health Dr. Hakan Dinçyürek stated that Prime Minister Ünal Üstel went to Near East University Hospital in the evening hours after the pain, which began on Monday morning, December 8th, continued to intensify throughout the day. Minister of Health Dr. Hakan Dinçyürek shared the information that Prime Minister Üstel had undergone a successfulumbilical hernia surgery at Near East University Hospital, saying, “The surgery was very successful. Our Prime Minister is in stable condition. We hope to be with us in a few days once his post-operative treatment is completed.” Minister of Health Dr. Hakan Dinçyürek thanked Near East University Hospital for the successful surgery and their efforts, and also wished Prime Minister Ünal Üstel a speedy recovery.

Prof. Dr. Ünal Üstel stated that he went to the Near East University Hospital Emergency Department around 10:00 PM on Monday evening, December 8th, complaining of severe abdominal pain. Salih Müjdat Balkan stated, “Following our examination and tests, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has been diagnosed with an incancerous umbilical hernia, commonly known as umbilical hernia.”

Near East University Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Salih Müjdat Balkan stated that the Prime Minister was subsequently taken into emergency surgery, adding, “We performed a successful umbilical hernia operation by taking our Prime Minister into emergency surgery. Mr. Ünal Üstel is in good general health following the surgery and is continuing his follow-up and treatment in our general surgery department.”
