Rector of Prizren Ukshin Hoti University of Kosovo, one of the leading universities in Kosovo, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani who came to Northern Cyprus to attend the “1st International NEU DESAM Biotechnology Congress” held by the Near East University DESAM Research Institute, Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia Yasin Ekrem Serim and Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu visited President Ersin Tatar at his office.

The four-day “1st International NEU DESAM Biotechnology Congress” brought together 112 researchers from 11 countries and 19 universities in Northern Cyprus. On the second day of the congress, President Ersin Tatar received Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia Yasin Ekrem Serim, Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu, Rector of Prizren Ukshin Hoti University of Kosovo Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani and Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ.


President Tatar emphasized the importance of the relationship between the TRNC and Kosovo
Expressing his pleasure in hosting Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani and his delegation, President Ersin Tatar expressed his wish that the cooperation established between Prizren Ukshin Hoti University and Near East University would be beneficial for both universities.

President Tatar conveyed his love to the brotherly people of Kosovo and emphasized the importance of developing relations between the two countries and advancing in cooperation.

President Tatar also touched upon the isolations imposed on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and pointed out the steps to be taken in order for certain developments in this context, and to enable the people of the TRNC make their voices heard, which would be an important development.

Referring to the speech of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, President Tatar reminded that Erdoğan called for the development of economic, diplomatic and political ties with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and emphasized that the visit was very important for him and the Turkish Cypriot people in this context. At the end of his speech, President Tatar expressed his wish for the development of such relations.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia, Yasin Ekrem Serim, also received the Rector of Prizren Ukshin Hoti University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani, and the Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, in his office with their accompanying delegation. Expressing his satisfaction with the visit, Yasin Ekrem Serim reminded that his last visit was to Prizen, Kosovo, during his previous duty as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and said, “I have visited over 150 cities to date. Among these cities, the cities that impressed me the most due to the spirit they carry and the spirituality they reflect were Prizen and Sarajevo.”

Emphasizing that Kosovo and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are very important and precious for Turkey, Ambassador Serim said, “As Turkey, we have always supported both countries in order to make them be recognized all over the world and we will continue this support with determination.” Yasin Ekrem Serim, who emphasized that the cooperation developed between the Near East University and Ukshin Hoti University of Prizren is very important, stated that they will provide support with all their means for the development of this cooperation.

Receiving the rectors with their delegations in his office, Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu emphasized that Northern Cyprus is an island of education and expressed his satisfaction that the “1st International NEU DESAM Biotechnology Congress” held at the Near East University brought together important scientists of the field in Northern Cyprus.

Stating that they have historical ties with Kosovo dating back to the Ottoman period, Minister Çavuşoğlu said that he was happy to host the delegation consisting of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mentor Alishani, Rector of Ukshin Hoti University of Prizren, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luan Vardari, Vice Rector of Ukshin Hoti University of Prizren and Advisor to the Rector Dr. Gjeni Imami.
