
Near East University, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş visited Andrea Cavallarini, the Italian Ambassador to Cyprus, at his residence.
According to the information provided by the Near East University Directorate of Press and Public Relations, the meeting took place in a very friendly atmosphere and lasted about one and a half hours. Prof. Dr. Gökçekuş handed out some papers to the Ambassador presented at the International Cyprus Conference held at the Near East University.
During the visit Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Assist. Prof. Dr. Beste Çubukçuoğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Işıksal were also present. During the visit, the Ambassador was provided with detailed information about the developments in the Near East University. Prof. Dr. Gökçekuş shared details about the content of the conferences held.

Prof. Dr. Gökçekuş said, “We organized two international conferences on Cyprus on 1-3 April and the Water Problems in Mediterranean Countries on 6-10 May. For the dates of October 7-11, we are working on an international conference on Environment: Life and Sustainability. As the Near East University, we have not only organized an International Conference on vital issues concerning our country, our region and the world, but also our studies are published by the most prestigious journals. information has reached the hands of many people around the world.
Prof. Dr. Gökçekuş pointed out at the visit that the university is offering extensive higher education opportunities with 21 Faculties, 220 departments to 30,000 students coming from 110 different countries, as well as providing the most modern health service to a wide range of audiences from domestic and abroad. It is the largest university in the TRNC with a total of 6000 employees, 3500 of whom are academic.
Prof. Dr. Gökçekuş added that when the international field bases such as Web of Science and Scopus journals taken into consideration, the Near East University have published over 1200 articles only in 2018 and ranked first in TRNC and third among the universities of Turkey. Gökçekuş voiced that 8 Research Institutes and 28 Research Centers in the body of the university provide great support to the projects carried out within the university and in the country, and the production facilities of the first electric car are about to be completed within a short time.

Italian Ambassador Cavallari expressed his satisfaction with the visit and stated that he was aware of the conferences successfully held by the Near East University and followed with interest. Ambassador Cavallari underlined that it has made a significant contribution to finding solutions to problems as a result of the sharing of information obtained through such international organizations. Saying that he was impressed by the interest in the conferences organized by the Near East University and the high level of the participants, the Ambassador said that the continuation of such activities is very important.

The Ambassador emphasized that the is extremely impressed by the the university phenomenon and the richness of the multicultural student community in Northern Cyprus.
Prof. Cavallari, who brought many wonders about why so many international students want to come to a country not recognized politically, was enlightened by Prof. Dr. Gökçekuş; "Programs of universities in the TRNC are mutually recognized as the universities of Turkey as the TRNC universities has been accredited by the Higher Education Council of Turkey. Besides, many other international accreditation institutions or foundations such as ASSIN, MIYAK, MUDET, ABET also accredited the TRNC universities so that their diplomas are internationally recognized.
