Prof. Dr. Yeşim Üstün Aksoy stated that it is best to do personal care at home as much as possible during the pandemic process, and made practical suggestions that can be applied at home for hair and skincare.

Natural products that can be used in skincare
Emphasizing that the COVID-19 pandemic has become an important source of stress causing a restrictive effect on our lives, Assist. Prof. Dr. Aksoy said that this stress can cause deterioration of the skin and hair structure as well as causing many health problems. Stating that for a healthy skin and hair, drinking water, a proper and balanced diet and sleeping patterns are very important. Assist. Prof. Dr. Aksoy emphasized that keeping the skin clean and moist is also very important. Touching on the importance of knowing the skin type and appropriate products in skincare, Assist. Prof. Dr. Yeşim Üstün Aksoy said, “The first step of skincare is cleansing the skin with appropriate products. Rosewater is one of the best natural ingredients that you can use as a cleansing tonic. Rosewater purifies the skin and prevents the formation of blackheads.”

Emphasizing that the skin should be moisturized after the cleaning process, Assist. Prof. Dr. Aksoy recommends skincare oils or some natural ingredients available at home for moisturizing process: "You can moisturize your skin with gel or cucumber juice contained in aloe vera leaves, and you can use different oils such as almond oil, wheat oil, black seed oil for this purpose. You can apply peeling to your skin once a week with Turkish coffee, almond, powdered sugar, strawberry and tomato.


Which mask for which skin?
Listing the products that can be used according to skin types for a healthy skin mask, Near East University Vocational School Hair Care and Beauty Services Department Head Assist. Prof. Dr. Yeşim Üstün Aksoy suggests preparing a skin mask with avocado, lemon, egg whites, strawberries and honey for dry skin. Masks containing honey, yogurt, olive oil, cucumber, aloe vera and banana are good for dehydrated and lifeless skin. Skin masks to be used on oily skin should contain apple cider vinegar and mineral water. Stating that green tea can be used as an anti-wrinkle in all skin types, Assist. Prof. Dr. Aksoy suggests the use of natural materials such as lemon, honey and granulated sugar for skin color, acne and blemish treatment, and cell renewal.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Aksoy also classifies natural products that can be used in hair care according to hair types. Nonfat yogurt and eggs for oily hair; castor oil and nettle for fine hair; Violet oil, olive oil and honey for thick hair; avocado, honey and olive oil for dandruff hair; Olive oil, honey, cinnamon, egg and almond oil for shedding hair; honey and milk for dry hair; banana and almond oil for damaged hair; mixtures prepared with natural ingredients such as violet oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil and vinegar for broken hair.
