Date Added: 27 October 2026, 14:42

The event titled “Personalized Healthcare Solutions in the Era of Multi-omics Data and Artificial Intelligence”, held at Near East University, explored the new possibilities offered by artificial intelligence and biological data in the healthcare sector.
The analysis of artificial intelligence and biological data contributes to a better understanding of diseases and the development of personalized healthcare solutions. Multi-omics approaches, which examine various types of biological data in an integrated manner, combine with artificial intelligence to provide new diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities in medicine. To evaluate advancements in this field, Near East University’s Faculty of Health Sciences, Center of Excellence, and the Synthetic Biology Research and Technology Center jointly organized the event, “Personalized Healthcare Solutions in the Era of Multi-omics Data and Artificial Intelligence.”

Held at the Artificial Intelligence, Informatics, and Innovation Center, the event featured Prof. Dr. Osman Uğur Sezerman, Head of the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics at Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University Faculty of Medicine, as a guest speaker. The event, which saw high attendance from students and was also attended by Near East University Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy, examined the potential of integrating multi-omics data with artificial intelligence technologies in healthcare. By addressing the role of scientific data and technological innovations in developing personalized healthcare solutions, the event underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between the health sciences, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology. The event concluded with a Q&A session, during which Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy presented a certificate of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Osman Uğur Sezerman.

Prior to the main event, a mini focus group meeting brought together academics, researchers, and student representatives from various disciplines, most notably computer science and artificial intelligence, microbiology, genetics, synthetic biology, veterinary medicine, and food technology. The meeting addressed laboratory processes, interdisciplinary research opportunities, and the potential for both local and international collaboration tailored to the event’s theme. Furthermore, the participants explored potential joint research topics, which centered on multi-omics data and artificial intelligence, as well as prospective scientific studies to be conducted in the future.

Interdisciplinary work offers new possibilities in healthcare!
Speaking at the opening of the event, Prof. Dr. Murat Özgören, Head of the Center of Excellence at Near East University, emphasized that the convergence of advancements in informatics with the health sciences creates new opportunities for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Prof. Dr. Özgören highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, while also reflecting on the academic journey of Prof. Dr. Osman Uğur Sezerman, noting his contributions to the field of bioinformatics and his work focused on the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and chronic diseases.

The era of personalized nutrition and artificial intelligence in healthcare…
In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Uğur Sezerman discussed his work on identifying individual disease risks and developing corresponding treatment methods by leveraging various types of “omics” data, with a particular focus on genetics and artificial intelligence. He specifically touched upon the research his team has conducted on cancer. Sezerman discussed methods aimed at understanding the mechanisms behind the development of cancer and identifying patient-specific treatment options, as well as the application of these methods across various types of cancer. He also provided information on the organoid projects his team is conducting, explaining how the effects of cancer drugs are studied using models that mimic the characteristics of actual tumors, and highlighted the potential contributions these efforts could make to the future of medicine.

In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Sezerman also addressed preventive medicine and healthy aging, noting that genetic and other “omics” data, which is combined with artificial intelligence analysis, can be used to identify disease risks in advance. He explained that, based on this data, it is possible to design personalized nutrition and exercise programs, as well as lifestyle modifications, and emphasized the importance of the “longevity” approach, which seeks to extend the period of healthy life. He emphasized that through such personalized solutions, one can reduce the risk of developing diseases, delay their onset, and minimize the impact of conditions that do arise.

Who is Prof. Dr. Osman Uğur Sezerman?
Prof. Dr. Uğur Sezerman graduated from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Boğaziçi University, where he also completed his master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. He completed his doctorate studies at Boston University in the United States under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Charles DeLisi, one of the pioneers of the Human Genome Project. Between 1999 and 2015, Prof. Dr. Sezerman served as a faculty member at Sabancı University, where he established laboratories for Computational Biology and Protein Engineering. Since 2015, Prof. Dr. Sezerman has served as the Head of the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics at the Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University Faculty of Medicine.

Studying in the fields of bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and personalized medicine, Prof. Dr. Sezerman focuses on analyzing large-scale biological data using artificial intelligence and machine learning to better understand diseases and develop individualized treatment methods. He contributes to these fields through both national and international research projects.
