Our children who lost their lives in the earthquake in Turkey will live in their paintings at the Walled City Museum and the 3-meter bronze “Champion Angels Monument”.

Famagusta Turkish State College students, their families and teachers lost their lives in Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that took place in Turkey and in Adıyaman, where they went to participate in the volleyball tournament where they would represent the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The memory of 6 parents, 5 teachers and 24 young athletes aged 12-14, who lost their lives in Adıyaman Isias Hotel, will be kept alive with their paintings in the Walled City Museum and the 3-meter bronze Champion Angels Monument.

The Champion Angels Monument, which will be erected with the initiative of the Walled City Museum and the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts, affiliated with the Near East Enterprises Museums Department, will feature the names of the TRNC students, parents and teachers who lost their lives in Turkey. The Champion Angels Monument, of which drawings have been published, has started to be worked on in the Sculpture Workshop located on the Near East University campus. In addition to the monument, a painting by the artists of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts in memory of those who lost their lives in the earthquake will be exhibited at the Walled City Museum.

Saying, “The earthquake disaster in Turkey has left deep wounds in our hearts,” Near East Enterprises Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “The loss of the athlete students and their families and teachers of Famagusta Turkish State College, who lost their lives in Adıyaman, where they were staying to represent our country, deepened our wound. We dedicate the Champion Angels Monument to the memory of our children, their families and teachers who lost their lives in the earthquake.

Wishing mercy to those who lost their lives in the earthquakes in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Günsel said, “Our champion angels will always be in our hearts. Condolences to the Turkish Cypriot People.”
